Aside from the redesign on the new 8" Gorn figure, I've noticed that in some of the pictures where it is being offered with the Sulu figure, the clothes seem to be made of a different, leather type of material as opposed to the Gorn offered by himself where he's wearing shiny clothing. Is there a variation or am I looking at a preproduction photo? Also if it is a variation, are there other differences between the two figures....

I think you might be refering to a prototype figure that appeared on the card.
However, I think the figure was only produced with the shiny suit. But others would know better than me.

Gorn
Yes thats exactly it! Too bad the first pic is a prototype, I think the suede looks much better. I was hoping that the suede suit would have been available in the two pack, then I would have bought both....Thanks!"Many Shubs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Sloar that day I can tell you."Comment

The first pic is the prototype. I know, I made it.Then there is are a couple preproduction figures (you can see one in remego) that is a different shiny material, then there is the shiny material that was actually mass produced.
I looked high and low, and for years for material that looked like the actual suit on the show, and always came up empty. I settled on that material on the proto, but obviously it wasn't something they could find or match easily in china. Doc can answer that better than I.Comment

Dave's is more screen-authentic, but I think EMCE's production fabric has more of a 'Mego aesthetic' to it. It's a great figure.Micronauts Collector, Historian, Consultant

I love the EMCE ST line, but the Gorn was my only disappointment, I'm sorry to say.
He looks scrawny, and I didn't like any of the materials used. The head sculpt is terrific, though. Once I have some time, I'll need to feed that guy some high proteine shakes, and get him a complete make-over.
The way he is now, he'd never make it into my Gorn army.
My favorite version of the Gorn remains the Art Asylum..

There's an art store chain in NY called Michael's and you might be able to match that suede to material they carry there. They sell scraps of suede and leather. I've seen similar material in the store. There are quite a few good seamstresses here on the Museum who will sew it for you if you can't sew it yourself.
It seems shiny is the way to go:
Ooops! Wrong pic!
The Gorn is much maligned as a bad rubber costume but I don't see why. It's very good quality. What some people may not realize is the top half is rubber too. Those arms & shoulders are not the stunt man's/actor's build. That's rubber! It's very well done.Comment

Isn't that Trek Gorn awesome?
He should have his own section on this forum...
I still think it's a great monster suit, and it could obviously take a punch....
