Worst of it was overnight. A small tree limb fell over the back of my father's car but no dents. It actually got worse after the official storm. Wind picked, power went out for a few hours and another tree cracked and fell into the backyard of the house behind us.
Power came back on and a few small brown outs followed. Things seem to be Ok now.

We got very lucky that Irene hit New York as a tropical storm, not a hurricane.

The winds were 50 mph, not 100. We got 6 inches of rain, not a foot plus.

I got power back last night - makes you appreciate how much you need
        electricity.
