I think someone mentioned that these belonged to a known collector and were planted in the unit so the show is rigged to an extent. Really, if getting the deals on these units filled with hidden treasures was this real; more people would be all over it. I actually like Auction Hunters more. I know many have said it is fake (they are actors but I have also heard that they really do know their stuff and do bid on auctions). They also admittedly say at the beginning that they are only showing their good buys and stated that 80% of the lockers they buy is junk but the 20% of good units more than make up for it."The farther we go, the more the ultimate explanation recedes from us, and all we have left is faith."

They do seem to make a lot of good finds on these shows. I ran a storage facility for 4 years and rarely had such cool stuff. Mostly it was household items and junk. I was required to do a minor inventory before listing the auctions. The big thing is that you have to have somewhere to move the merchandise like a store or something.
The thing I always thought was odd on Storage Wars was that every unit they unlocked was full. After the tenant was late for the second straight month, I had to cut the lock to make sure there was something in the unit. Sometimes people moved out and forgot and relocked their unit. I had to relock with one of our locks before any auction process could be started. Must have been distinct to my old company.Comment

The very idea of that episode find is unrealistic on multiple levels.
First off finding something worth 14K no matter what it is.
Second, can you imagine any one mego collector who is obsessed enough to have those holy grails, and just "leave them?" Barring an unexpected death of course.
All that aside, it is a very dreamy episode, even if it's rigged.Comment

It probably is rigged but, people do get behind on their payments and can't get their stuff that is worth far more than the bill on the unit. Seem it happen. Not to the $14K value though. I have found units with cash in them. After I left the company, I went back and bid on a unit that was a 10 by 30 with pallets of bathroom and kitchen tile in it. Must have been a builder that went out of business or something. I knew they guys that normally bid there and they only bid on household stuff. I bid $100, this company did sealed bids. I won. Took some samples to a flea market where I ran into a builder. Sold the whole lot for $1K. Didn't even have to move them. Very nice profit.Comment

I think it was confirmed here that it was staged. But everyone should know by now that "reality TV" is anything but. Nothing but junk that belong at the curb in that unit, then they all of the sudden pull out an amazing toy collection.
At this point stressing how phony these shows are, is just stating the obvious. Like people who'd make fun of people for liking professional wrestling on the ground it was "fake". No s_t Sherlock.
I have a bigger bone to pick with "Storage Hunters" though. TruTV is the most ironic name for a station, considering they don't even try to make something even remotely realistic.Comment
