    Planet of the Mini Apes

These little knock off action figures have stymied Mego collectors for years so what better time to talk about them than the day we’re getting a new Planet of the Apes movie in theatres. These two inch tall figures seem to be copied from Mego’s successful Planet of the Apes line and mostly surface in England. They are very popular with Ape collectors but luckily Ape collector extraordinarie Mike Jimenez lent us these photos. Click on them for a larger view. Urko, Solider Ape and Doctor Zaius have never been more adorable! For more Ape goodness, check out the Megomuseum Planet of the Apes galleries.

I'd forgotten how much "big business" the Apes were back then and how many knock-offs came out of the whole trend...They were "Star Wars" before "Star Wars"

It does feel odd that a new apes movie is coming out without an accompanying toy line

Thats true,, its been the thing to have the toy line out in TRU before the movie came out, but if you also notice the trend, the toys have not b een selling either,, look at like lets say Iron man figures, 7-8$ for a 3" figure,,,at that price point they are just warming the peg hooks.

I must be living in a cave since I've never heard about or seen these before. Pretty neat.

Never seen them before, either. They look like those hollow, plastic toys with a fuzzy later glued on to them. I remeber things like that where the fuzz would wear off after a while.

Never seen these before, but they look cool, definitely styled after the Mego Apes

                        I like the all-singing, all-dancing Ape soldier.
