Mego of the Week - Night John Boy

Today on Mego of the Week we look at the Walton’s playsets. While most collectors might have Happy Days and CHiPs in their collections not everyone is rushing out to add the Waltons, which is actually a shame. Mego went all out giving John Boy and Mary Ellen a place to live, a place to shop and a vehicle to get around in. If only we’d gotten the barn and horse, life would be good here on the mountain. For more information on this piece visit the Waltons page at the Mego Museum.

They should have put a boy on the box with the girl.

Having the girl alone does make it look like it's just for girls.

      ^Good point.

Although my family watched the Waltons every week, I can't imagine really being into toys based on it. Happy Days was a different matter...

I think switching to a picture of a boy on the box would have resulted in exactly 0 more sales.

I love the Waltons. The playsets are killer, especially the Store. So many cool pieces including the pool table. Very happy to own it.

They should have changed some of the decals and made it a Wild West saloon.

Kind of surprised Mego didn't do that.

I never knew there was a general store. Too bad they didn't have an Ike Goddsey doll as the storekeeper.

(BTW, Brian, the Walton gallery link in that post isn't working.)

I'll tell you what I've always found interesting about the Waltons. It's how many times I've seen a Mego Walton's home converted out at Fair art shows to be a haunted house. If I can remember six or seven times, I bet the actual number is closer to fifteen. So many of those playsets have been converted to custom projects, it's not funny. I even seen one converted into a Michael Myers house! People find appeal in them, but it's seldom for their original intent. So if you see a Mego Walton's home in the wild and it's intact, you might want to scoop it up just to preserve!

Speaking of the farmhouse, would love to see the Museum update the gallery and include some loose farmhouse photo's

Would like to see what it looks like on the inside

Anybody have this thing and wouldn't mind taking a few pictures ?

You know if Mego had made The Baldwin Sisters and their "Recipe Machine",you'd be all over it.

Love the show (watching it now on Hallmark) and the toys.

                          How scarce is the store?

The store is a beauty. Last complete one sold for over $300. I would say they are fairly rare complete.
                            I like toys.
