AcroRay's Laboratory takes a "Commercial Break"...
I was playing Legos with my nephew on his birthday this Friday, and Micronauts really did have a terrific hook as a building toy as well as an action figure line. Particularly when you do look at concepts in the same ballpark.. Like Bionicle.
If Hasbro or whomever does have the rights now, that is really the concept they should be pushing for kids. With respect to the recent companies that have attempted to bring back the Micros as nostalgia lines. For me as a kid, it was the building aspect that appealed the most to me... Particularly when you add in motors, firing missiles, robot parts etc.
Hasbro is the current official home of Micronauts, as announced last year at their investors' teleconference.
Hasbro has been deliberately quiet about their plans. However, my suspicion is that complex interchangeability, various 'standards' of connectivity, and a 1/18th scale (or close to it) will be the line's hallmarks, as it has been in the past. I don't expect a collector-oriented line like the recent Microforce line from Takara. My expectation is that the Hasbro Micronauts will be kid-friends, playable, and probably incorporate the Takara SF-Land style.
I'll point out that this is all purely speculation on my part, based on past trends I've seen. I have no official word from Hasbro's shops one way or another.
That "youngminds" commercial is fantastic. The Micronauts commercials were always favorites of mine when I was a kid, usually seeing a new commercial was how I learned about what toys they had coming out. Between the awesome commercials and the colorful artwork found in the small catalog inserts, there was no way I could avoid getting sucked in. Great blog Ray, thumbs up.
