    The Museum and Ebay

You may have noticed some banner advertising on the site linking you to Ebay, which I'm sure we're all too familiar with. This is a performance based link much like our Amazon and EE banners.

Many of us use Ebay every day and proceeds from the advertising will help go towards things such as upgraded servers, software and bandwidth to keep the Museum running. If you are heading to eBay anyway, why not go through an MM link?

In the past, we have solely relied on member donations, which we may still be forced to do. It is far too early to tell how successful this will be. It is our goal that advertising partners such as Ebay hopefully will help relieve a good portion of the burden on our membership.

Questions? Concerns? PM Me, Scott, or Steve.

    Thanks,
    Brian

I've seen some forums put a banner add inside of threads (between posts) --- usually 1 add per page.

Most of the time it's one skinny banner add about half way down the page tucked between replies.

This would not annoy me, so long as it wasn't too big or animated.

I'm not sure we're gonna go that far.

Personally as long as it is at the top of the page....doesnt bother me. In fact it probably works better....when I read some posts it makes me think "Dang I need to get one of those and I go looking for it. If I could just go to the top of the page and hit a button....AND get MM some greenbacks.....works for me! Hell I am a fat lazy american...DONT MAKE ME WORK!!!

The HUUUUUUUUGE majority of my time here is spent logged in to the forum using "SON OF RETRO TAN" and I don't EVER see the eBay advertisement widget. I can't imagine folks would begrudge the MM getting some free cash from some "front entrance traffic" to help keep this place neat and tidy.

Actually, and I don't want to sound like a jerk, but I'm kinda glad I don't see all these banner adds in Son of Retro Tan. That doesn't mean I don't care about the museum, far from it. I've always been there to support the museum financially when it was needed, I just don't wanna see all these adds

We will certainly do our best to make sure the ads are in good taste and are not intrusive.

The worst one I have a problem with is the animated widget Amazon one on the right ride of the main forum page on Retro Tan

That add it not only distracting, but seems to freeze my computer up often when I scroll.

It's really annoying seeing it zero in on pictures.

It's like it was made just to make people mad

It seems an incredibly small thing to do considering how much time we spend at ebay. Why not start the trip from here?

Here is a question on how all of those things work. Do you just get commission if you purchase what is showing on the ad or is it as long as I go to the museum first, I can click on, say, Amazon...surf around through multiple pages and it still records to you if I purchase?
                          It's all good!

I concur. I've got a very old PC at home that I use, and flash banner ads are the bane of the thing. I'll be upgrading to a newer one this weekend, but I can certainly appreciate the problems they cause PC users with older processors. If there's an option to have those vendors feed static ads rather than flash slideshows, it would help users with those hardware limitations.
