Hal is a great guy and a wonderful talent. A real pro, and also has a history with Bernie Wrightson and Michael Kaluta.

3 of Hal's pieces were part of my Micronauts display at the toy museum - concept art for Nemesis. Actually, even more of his work was on display, as Hal was the designer of the Micronauts' very distinctive packaging.

Man, I can't tell you enough about how that luscious Mego art you did had me staring at it as a kid as the prettiest thing I ever saw (before girls, that is).

My name is Harold Shull and I use to be the Art Director of Mego Toys way back in the early 70s when the likes of The Micronauts and Star Trek were born at Mego. For some time now I have been wanting to stop in and say hello. Because if it weren't for you guys Mego's classic toy lines would fade away into history but thanks to Brian and you people, Mego's influence to the toy field should survive and be healthy for quite some time. Thanks. My career has taken a few turns in the road. Right now I am working for an advertising agency in NYC, painting book covers and taking on portrait commissions... nothing as exciting as Mego Toys though.

I will be stopping in many times now, so if you have any questions about Mego that I can answer for you just post them. As for my on-going career, you can catch up to me here:

Thank you all for the warm welcome. I will get back to you with some answers to your questions and also information about the day to day problems and activities of Mego's Art department. Right now I have some house guests for the weekend which has occupied most of my time. Again, I want to thank all of you for the efforts you have put in to the Mego Museum and Mego's history. I will get back to you after my guests leave.

Welcome Harold. Your work was a big part of what made us love these toys even more, back then and now. Great to see you participating in the Re-Mego Era, tying your style to the new packaging. It's like Mego was just on vacation for a couple of decades.

It is an honor to have you here! As an artist and graphic designer myself, I must say that your work at Mego raised the bar on toy packaging. Beautiful stuff!!!

                            Wow,a real pleasure.
I have honestly admired your work for several decades!!!
Even once I opened the toy it was a long, long time before I could part with the artwork.
Thanks for stopping in to chat.

Hi, Thank you, Mr. Shull, for joining us. As a 43 year old now, I was of prime age when all of the Star Trek merchandise come out. Some of your artwork was probably burned inot my retina after staring at it for so long. As a graphic artist now, I would love to see scans or pics or hear details of things like mechanicals for box art or how the Micronauts font was decided upon, etc. Any stories from Star Trek or OZ where you had a piece everyone liked except the celebrity or rights holder and it had to change, etc. Thanks!

                              Steve
                              It's all good!

a question ?,did you see the product before or after you did the art for the packages ,as a kid i bought a keeper, which was the only one i saw at first,i thought your picture of the cheron was really cool, when i found the cheron ,i was disapointed that it didnt look like your picture, was that because you had not seen it ?,i have always wondered about that since 1970s
