Hi all, I'm new to the board and I had a quick question.....I Just purchased a pair of Superman boots off of Ebay. The plastic of one was quite thick compared to the other, noticeably so. It was much more rigid. It doesn't seem to be a repro, but I can't be 100% sure. So my question is, is there known variations about the plastic thickness for the boots?

Welcome aboard!! This is the place to be if you're a MEGO-crazed individual. :-)
As to your question, I have seen some thick ones tossed around in parts lots and I always find them to feel like CTVT or DM reproductions. Can you post some photos? Maybe there are some legitimate MEGO boots with different thicknesses.

There are def. some vintage variances--I've had late-issue Superman & Cap with thick, deeper red boots. The casting itself on these boots is less smooth/glossy, sort of ridged/striated.WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.Comment

I agree. Especially when Batman and Superman first came out with the skinny boots in the beginning. Those are like see-through. By the time the MEGO figures were in the full type 2 swing, the boots deffinitly were the way we love them.Comment

There are two types of Superman boots. The early versions came with what is called the "skinny" boot which is more narrow than the later standard hero boot. Both DM and CTVT have made boots and they vary a bit in shape compared to the original standard boot. Doc Mego's are stamped DM on the bottom. CTVT's are unmarked.

Hmmm.... i'd say the one on the left looks like a DM boot, but without the stamp on the bottom, i don't know what to tell you.

It's really tough to say without seeing them in person. From what I can tell looking at the pictures, I had a pair of Batman boots that looked very similar back before there were manufactured reproductions. I can't be 100% sure, but I would say it's the real deal.Nostalgia just ain’t what it used to be.Comment

I've tryed to take pictures of mine in the past but it never shows up well. Mine came on a really nice Superman with Nylon Shorts and an almost orange belt.~~~ Jess ~~~

The "thicker" wider red boots came on some of the later issue Caps (79' US) and Supermans (79' US, 79' PinPin).
One of my original Supermans that I personally ripped off a '79 US card in 1983 had the paper sticker and thick boots.
It's possible that they were on earlier releases but these are the ones I know for sure.Last edited by MegoGeek; May 16, '11, 11:12 AM.______
