Man what I collection! I used to have a shipping box, but I was moving cross country and I didn't have room for it any more. I think I ended up giving it to Shanester on here.

What's cool about the Scotts in my opinion is that there is dust on them (the case is open). It blows right off if you want it off but the first one I picked up I left fingerprints. I don't know why but I thought that was the coolest thing like they just closed the warehouse and I come in 30 years later and pick up a Scottie off the shelf covered in dust. As for selling them, eventually I seem to sell everything but I don't have any plans right now.
Regarding the witch, it was definitely packed 2 to case but these cases were opened and mixed up. I know this because I have another case coming that has a different assortment (I'll post a pic of that box also). There were likely more also. The guy I bought this from didn't want to give me both witches for the price I paid so he gave me an extra Glinda. Then he went ahead and gave me a bunch of other figures in not so nice boxes as a bonus. I did want the original case packed from the factory but I'm pretty sure he had all of these out and mixed up over the years anyway so I didn't push the second witch issue. I can buy a second witch and fix it myself. He told me his mom says his dad originally bought TWO HUNDRED CASES of Mego products back in the day. All of them long gone by now except these.
I love this stuff.Last edited by SUPERUNDERDOGGIE; Apr 27, '11, 5:36 AM."God has put definite limits on the heights of man's wisdom, but no limits to the depths of his stupidity"Comment

This is cool. Not something I'd pursue, but it's cool that someone is keeping track of this piece of Mego history.
I was watching "American Pickers" a few nights ago, and there was a carton with the Ideal logo in this old storage building. My mind swirled with what was once in there...or still in there!!!

If anyone is interested I finally got around to putting up the photo of the 2nd Mego Wizard of Oz case showing a different assortment (only 1 Wicked Witch) on my website.

Really nice! I have a roll of acetate I got from and art supply store, and I carefully made clear plastic sleeves for my two Mego Micronaut shipping cases (Time Travelers and Galactic Warriors). They spent a lot of years in someone's dry attic, so I wanted to seal them away somewhat, but not in an acrylic or lucite box.Micronauts Collector, Historian, Consultant

Hey all, talking to Wee67 I think we had a Eureka moment.
I had been wondering about the two versions of the Star Trek boxes. One box has "2Doz Star Trek Assortment 51201" and the other was "Scotty 51200/5".
It finally dawned on us that these boxes give us great insight into the Mego process. Apparently the Scotty and Wizard of Oz boxes are MANUFACTURER'S shipping containers which is why they show arrival information and point of origin. As Bill already mentioned, these would have come by boat in the 1970's so going through the Panama Canal makes a lot of sense.
So, after arriving in Newark, NJ, Long Beach, or wherever, they would have then been loaded up on trains and sent to the Bohemia Long Island distribution center where they would be broken up into the various assortments needed to fill orders. So they would have taken the right amount from a case of Scottys, a case of Kirks, etc. to fill the second box you see which was a MEGO "ship to customer" box. That's why the assortment number is different and there is no destination info. That may also explain the diamond shape vs. rectangular shape on the side as I think international shipments must have the diamond symbol? not sure on that.
That also explains the WGSH box. They had many more assortments of the carded figures so they left the assortment blank so they could fill it in. This seems to indicate that there would have been another version manufacturer's box for Superman, Batman, etc.etc. The box variations must have been significant. Does that make sense?"God has put definite limits on the heights of man's wisdom, but no limits to the depths of his stupidity"Comment

"I just noticed that the Oz box is stamped 51501 which is "Dorothy's number, no? They then added the case assortment stamp showing the contents."

I find this stuff SO interesting. It is almost like a time capsule. I mean it is cool to see a single old mego in a collection....but a whole case...just as you would have seen them 35 years ago. There are few things cooler than opening up a new case of toys....seeing them all packed perfectly....but seeing a case of MEGOs packed in there....AWESOME!
