    But.

Removable Cowl Batman is the greatest Mego ever made. Period.

There were, obviously, many better sculpts, many more detailed and more accurate figures, and as is the case with Spider-man, more beloved figures.

But RCB embodies everything that made Mego great. In one figure you have all these features:

Play value! It's one of the few Megos to take advantage of the costume change ability the figures have. Even without having the Bruce Wayne suit you had a hero that transformed into someone else.

The BEST Mego accessory--they are still trying to beat the RM Cowl and haven't done it yet. Perfect fit...the eyes looking through the mask...that fantastic blue rubber. I had one as a kid and touching one again for the first time 30 years later was the closest I'll ever get to time travel.

Oven mitts. The very DEFINITION of Mego charm.

    The belt is perfect.

Sticker insignia. Totally imperfect, destined to be lost, easily improved upon later. But that only makes an RCB with an original sticker all the better.

The CLASSIC Mego hero boot--in 2 styles--skinny and regular.

If you get it in a solid box you've got one of the most desireable American Megos ever made, second only to the same figure on a Kresge card.

History! It's one of the original 4 super hero figures that changed the toy industry when it came out. And of the 4 only Superman rivals it as far as importance, and considering how much money Mego made off of the Batman line--4 villains, 4 vehicles, 2 playsets, there's no doubt that Batman is the greatest of the 4 and thus the greatest Mego.

A Mego collection is not complete without one.
    Well said sir.

For myself, it's really a tie between the RC Batman and Spider-man. Both were such major events in my childhood, its hard to place one over the other. Seeing the RC Batman on a spin rack at the checkout lane of my local K-Mart was an incredible moment. I saw that figure and instantly thought of a million adventures I could have. Like Scott, I fell in love with that cowl and it's appeal remains intact to this very day. Then there is Spider-man. My, my, my... I grew up watching the '67 classic. And I wanted a figure so bad in those days in the late 60's, I use to have my mom draw me a picture of Spider-man which she would then cut out so I could play with him. That too prompted me to start drawing and collecting comics, all of which became staples in my life. So fast forward to the day when I had done enough choirs to earn me a new Mego. I wanted Captain America. I had thought about him and was in a frenzy to get him. My mother asked me twice if I was sure he was the one I wanted. I said, "Absolutely." When I got home I had him out and was posing him and decided to admire the box artwork of my well earned action figure...That's when I saw "IT"! There on the side was a pic of Spidey! Out of the depths of my soul I screamed, "NOOoooOOOOoooo!" I went to my mother and said, "I was misinformed. What other jobs can I do? I have an emergency!" It took about a week, but after putting in a hard days work with my dad, he took me to Roses where I got my first Spidey. And to this very day I still have that figure and the box. Pure magic.

It's RC Batman. And I never even had one as a kid! I love my molded cowl version as well, but there is no doubt that RC Batman is superior in every way. Scott already said the rest.

Superman. Everyone had one. The head sculpt was great. The suit was spot on. And the Hall of Justice felt empty without him.

That's a great story! I love hearing stories like this about the emotions involved with that awesome toy from childhood.

                    GREAT STORY..!!!!

Ditto about the RC Batman, when I first saw him, it was a HUGE goal for me to get (got him and RC Robin a month or so later at Easter..).

Great story about Cap and Spidey... My Dad took me out to this dime store and I saw them both together for the first time.., I was in TOTAL shock. He said he could only afford to buy me one, so despite my greater love for Cap, I grabbed Spidey. Finally got Cap a month or so later, but was disappointed with his design short-comings next to Spidey, especially after reading all the 'super-strength stories' by Englehart and Buscema at the time.

Still I played the dickens out of them all...

                    Yes, it indeed was magic..
                    Peace.. Through Superior Firepower.

I'd have to say Action Jackson because with out him i doubt we would have any other Megos.

My vote is for Gene Simmons. The sculpt is beautiful, absolutely capturing the character of the demon. The outfit is perfect in it's Mego-ness and I always liked the real chains on the front and the cool batwings. The two-piece platform boots are a great solution. And really, who can argue with the song from the commercial? And he could always beat both Maskatron and Bionic Bigfoot in a fight ..... well, at least when I was playing with them.

I agree the best Mego is the one that is from your childhood. For me the first of the lines I got were magical: Bearded AJ, RC Bats & RM Robin, Supes, Aquaman, Spidey, Kirk.

Removable Cowl Batman is the greatest Mego ever made. Period.
Scott is right, there is the most Mego-ness out of him and Robin. A "how do we do this?" before someone said "how do we do this better..."
                              It's all good!

In terms of iconic Mego figures, I'd have to say Spidey, Hulk and Bats tops the list. In terms of sculpt/creativity/color/awesomeness, I'd have to say Green goblin, Lizard and Thing...oh yeah and Iron Man.
