    Grading your Megos

    Hi All,

I'm new so forgive me if this has been covered in a recent post. Wondering if
anyone has their megos graded by AFA?

    Hello and welcome!

I remember about 6 months ago there was a thread about AFA grading for Megos and for the most part, the people who commented weren't into AFA grading. You might be able to do a search for 'AFA' and find the thread. It seems like it got to be several pages long.

I've never had anything AFA graded myself, but if I got a good deal on a piece that happened to already be AFA graded, I wouldn't mind that it was in the case.
Nostalgia just ain’t what it used to be.

i give all my Megos an A+ cause i love em love em love em

there is a lot of ill will toward "official" grading because it is usually wildly inaccurate but people do it anyway.

      oh, and welcome.

grading items usually costs enough that it is only useful for high dollar items. if the item is worth $50 and you spend $50 to grade it it just doesn't make sense.

if the item is worth $5000 and you spend $50 it is an small price to pay to boost a buyers confidence (or boost your insurers valuation)

i don't buy items that cost over $200 so i have never paid one cent extra for a graded item. it does not influence my perceived value.

Hello there and welcome. Glad to see you join in and participate here at The Mego Museum.

As far as your question is concerned Generic hit the nail right on the head.

In fact this is probably the link that he referred to.

The above link also contains my opinion on AFA graded stuff as well.

Enjoy your stay here at The Mego Museum!

Someone close to AFA recently purchased some carded Megos from me.

It will be interesting to see if they re-emerge on the secondary market graded by AFA, and if so, how well they fare.

I personally would not pay any extra for a graded Mego. In the past, I sent one or two pieces off to be graded just bacuse I wanted them protected in the acrylic case, as I keep all of my carded and boxed stuff in cases. However, I soon was put in touch with Oscar from Mexico and he makes all of my cases for me with the advantage that items can be removed from his, as they cannot be from AFA cases without destroying the case and risking damage to the Mego packaging. I have purchased a few AFA graded pieces, but only when the selling prices stayed at real value and not the inflated value that some feel graded pieces are worth.
