    Question about Robin shoes.

I have a pair of Robin shoes for the 8" figure. In the inside of one shoe is the number 1. Inside the other the number 4. Are these originals?

I once asked the same thing about a couple of my Star Trek tricorders. I had read that the originals were stamped with a #7 on the back, yet i had one i could swear was an original, but it was stamped with a #5. The answer i was given was that the numbers possibly represent a tracking method for the molds to keep track of their age and use. Could be the same thing in your case with the Robin boots.

Interesting, I just checked my original T1 Robin and can't see any numbers on the shoes. I know that these are the original shoes because I got him new as a kid in the early-mid 1970's and have never replaced anything. It looks like there might be some marking on the ball of the shoe but after years of being played with it hard to tell.

Just rechecked ( with better lighting and better glasses ) and I did find a #3 & 4 - printed backwards.

It's funny cause I never noticed it when I was a kid but sure enough those numbers are there guess its a good way to tell if they are originals

These are obviously the shoe sizes. Each Mego figure that was hired to portray Robin would have had a different size foot. You can't tell by looking at them because to us big people, the sizes are too close to differentiate, but trust me, if you were running around chasing the Joker all day, you'd want to make sure your shoes fit.

Interesting, I just checked my Robin's shoes. One is unmarked and the other has a "M" (or "W" I suppose) on the inside. I'm 100% sure they are original. I guess all kinds of markings are possible, these shoes probably had a lot of production runs, but I wonder what they mean.....

I'm telling ya, they're shoe sizes. The 'W' is for Wide.

Yeah, I was thinking "wide" or "medium".

                            I have your probable answer
Being as I worked in a plastics factory and was back up QC.
Those numbers and/or letters are cavity numbers in a mold.
Picture a mold with 4 spots to make Robins shoes. The mold has 2 halves, hence the seams.
In that mold they would be marked 1, 2,3, 4.
These numbers are also helpful if they had a bad run of parts, they could identity which cavity they came from. Such damage even resulted from mold damage. Most of the time, someone was to careless in getting out a stuck part!

Some of your bigger plastic parts, car, etc. are marked "CAV 1" or even "CAVITY 1" just as an example.
                            Wants, original parts; thinking...
It's the quiet ones you gotta watch!
