    Oven Mits?

Mego's are great, Nuff said. But...What is with the oven mit gloves? Even as a child i thought these were ridiculous. Mego spent all sorts of money sculpting great figures with accurate detail, for the time, and then develops a really poor glove accessory. Why did we even need a glove accessory? The super hero gloves are silly and ape gloves are really no better. They would have been better without anything or simply making wrist cuffs with painted hands. Really, as a child do you remember ever having an adventure with your megos and taking a time out to dress your superhero with a super oven mit. Bif! Bam! Pow! was more like Phwump, phwump, phwump take that Joker....roundhouse kick with a floppy oven mit to the face. I bet Barbie never even had oven mits

What do you guys think? Has this been brought up before?

    Sincerely (Toungue in cheek)

Chalk it up to the whacky nostalgia super hero magic of the 1970s. It probably made perfect sense at the time.

      Part of the charm.

As a kid, I liked the way RC Batman could be turned into "researching in the batcave" Batman by removing his cowl, cape, and gloves. The removable element of the toy's costume design made sense to me.

Of course it's been brought up before but what hasn't?

The oven mitts were Mego's first attempt to create gloves, the first three heroes in 1973 had them and two Supergals did in '74 but it was abandoned afterwards.

You can see the different attempts, plastic gloves on the FF, painted hands on the Super Foes. I've read before that even Marty Abrams didn't like the oven mitts but I guess they never felt they had a better option so they just let Batman and Robin run for 10 years with them.

Love them now but as a kid they lasted seconds in my house, so they became a symbol of a new action figure to me.

As a kid I didn't even notice or care they were mits.

To me they were just gloves

I think it's only as an adult a lot of people notice and care about things like that.

            Mittens

Actually Barbie DOES come with oven mits. Solo in the Spotlight Barbie has evening mitts. I've been trying to figure how to do fingered gloves for several years now...

I thought they were silly as well but it never stopped me from having Batman or Robin punch the crap out of someone while wearing them

I usually lost the emblems in a day or two, the oven mitts in a week.

I got plastic gloves for my Batman and Robin, but I had to have oven mitts for the Fist Fighter versions. The only problem is when Batman really gets going, his mitts fly off!

How do you expect our guys to get burning hot pans of baked goods out of their superhero ovens without them?!?!
