Pieces you passed on, and wish you didn't.

In the early 90's my wife and I did a lot of toyshows in the Denver area. A guy at one of the shows had about 4 cases (ya, cases!) of moc invisible woman figures for $15 each. I passes on them because they weren't very hot at the time. What I should have done is bought a case, box included, and put them away. Oh, the pain, the pain. I definately regret that one.

When I was a teenager in the mid 80's I worked at childworld counting new and old inventory at night one summer. I found a case of POTF figures that was opened with about 20 mint figures in it. I passed again. There were also some carded mego hulks from returns. I wasn't into megos then but remembered them from my childhood. Again, I didn't buy any.

    Any other good stories?

A few years before I started collecting toys I went into a mom and pop drugstore in PA and found a boxed Alien, maybe around 1990. When I went back a few years later the Alien was gone, but they still had a nice collection of Masters of the Universe, GoBots, a bunch of robot models from the mid-80's and some Sectaurs. My roommate at the time collected too, so twice a year we'd drive up and buy one or two things, always leaving something for the next visit. Eventually someone found the stash, but we had 3 years of fun looking at a store shelf with old toys. Wish I woulda bought that damn Alien though...

      Silver Soldier Ape for $75
Canvas Shorts Batman Suit. Actually had it but passed it through the collection.
Oh and every time I scoure for one, I remember passing on a Draped Bust Dime for $125. But of course that was when you could get Mego's for $1.98at Kresges. and I couldn't afford that, let alone $125. But I did want one.

The only thing I can think of is a 9" Playmates "Mirror Mirror" Lt. Uhura. The only reason I passed on her is b/c I ran outta money.

Oh, and a Land Of The Giants book. I circled the room a couple of times before I decided to buy it and it was already gone.

I bought a Lost in Space Helmet at a flea market for 2.00 and traded it at a show years later wish I had it back...or course getting the rifle is impossible.

and everything I have ever seen from MARX. I wish I had started collecting it.

I was at an estate auction just a couple a months ago. A really neat vintage Superman childs' book/tote bag was being offered. It looked 40's or 50's. I was thinking it was probably a $150 dollar piece. I bid up to $75 and lost. It was just me and some other dude--he won it for $70. I later found it was a pretty rare piece worth about $1000. Oh well......

The two I think about the most are not Megos, but here they are:

About four years ago I was at a vintage toy shop in Japan (Mandarake) and saw a boxed Lili Ledy Six Million Dollar Man. I remember thinking "Wow, it's funny that this item from Mexico somehow made it all the way to a toy store in Japan years later". At the time though, I didn't really collect Ledy stuff and the box was kind of rough, so I didn't think about picking it up (I wasn't aware of the rarity of boxed vintage Mexican toys). I would have grabbed it in a heartbeat now. I don't remember the price, but it wasn't in a glass case like most of the good expensive stuff was, but more like in a kind of "bin" with a jumble of not as desirable toys. I probably could have bought it for around $30.00 or so.

The second "one that got away" was also in a Japanese store two years later. On the last day of our trip, I went to Akihabara one more time just to pick up a couple DVDs, and I stopped in a vintage toy store I didn't notice on previous visits. They had a boxed Jumbo Machinder Reideen figure (much cooler than the US Mattel Shogun Warrior version) and it was only around $200, which is quite reasonable for that toy (most Jumbo Machinders cost an arm and a leg at Japanese vintage stores, even the common figures). I really agonized about buying it or not all day, but we were already packed, in fact the luggage was already enroute to the airport by courier. So I would have had to leave it at my father-in-law's house until our next trip the following year. The wait would have killed me, plus I really didn't relish the idea of struggling with a boxed two foot tall robot on the crowded rush hour trains (about an hour and a half trip) back to my in-law's house.

Anyway, I really wish I bought both of these now.
