FYI: on DeepDiscount.com, the Mego WGSH 50th Ridder is currently $7.72. (Free shipping over $25.)

I am not, as a general rule, an MIB collector. But I do have eight Mego WGSH 50th figures MIB. So, when DeepDiscount also sent me an additional discount code, I bought a Riddler just now. (Now, maybe if I go into my local Ross, I will find the WGSH Penguin for $6, which I have seen on YouTube multiple times recently.)

I'm quoting myself because this morning turned out to be a very lucky day for me. I had to start my day unusually early with a stop at Home Depot. Since a Target is a few doors down, I stopped in, looking for the ever-elusive Spin Master Retro Superman movie figures. This was, like, 7:30 AM, the earliest I'd ever been in a Target. And to my amazement, they had them all.

So then, a couple of hours later, I was stopping at a local grocery store. In the same mall complex, there is a Ross. But I almost never go in there. (Maybe once every couple of years.) I've ducked in at Christmas a few times, and there was always nothing much there, toy/figure-wise. But recently, I'd seen a few YouTube videos of people at Ross finding the Mego WGSH Penguin. Since I had had very unusual luck earlier that morning at Target, I decided to go in. And to my utter amazement, they had one. For $4.99. Mego at Ross. It was real.

So now, when the Riddler arrives in the mail, I'll have 10 of the modern WGSH in those really cool retro boxes. This Penguin isn't strictly 'MIB,' but it is, I suppose, 'Very Good In Box,' and that's good enough for me. So in the end, I managed to get the Penguin and the Riddler to go along with the Joker. (The others I have are heroes.)

Looks okay to me and at the price you can’t complain. By the way if you don’t mind me asking, how is the articulation of the arms and legs?

No problem! You know, I am going to leave this figure in its special retro packaging. (I'm not an MIB collector, but I have made a few exceptions to that over the years - including several of these WGSH 50th Anniversary figures.) So, unfortunately, I can't comment knowledgeably about the articulation.

Thank you! I've actually never had any luck before (ever - literally zero) when looking for figures at any of these types of discount stores....

The box figures were from a local sales ad and the loose FTC knight was from a flea market. Great for parts on a futur custom figure.

That is awesome! I can't imagine any circumstance where I could/would ever find a dozen MIB Mego figures in my area in any weekend. (Or maybe any year!)

Trust me, I am astounded myself. I usually have to pay shipping to get these figures. So far quite lucky since bought from individuals that bought several figures so when I buy, I buy a batch of figures.

You can also see a downside to the way Im doing it since I am getting lots of the same figures I already have but I dont mind that. Will eventually take out one of each for display and still have a a full set MIB.

I dont know where you live if a big city or not but I would imagine you would have better chances of finding some in a big city. Look and shop on your aftermarket sites. Local sites are the best if you ask me. ( hate paying shipping or duty fees )

I am looking forward to start finding some loose figures on the aftermarket. I use to buy naked figures back in the 90s for customs, but naked figures of original figures are very expensive these days... lol

I'm in San Diego, California, which I would say is kind of a 'Big City,' but with small-town vibes.

I only ever saw modern Mego figures for sale here at Target in 2019-?, and then once I saw a lonely Mego Mummy in the 'Electronics' section of a local Walmart. Otherwise, I bought all my modern Mego figures online; some at full retail price when first released, many others by playing 'the long game.'

That said, San Diego has a 'famous local' monthly swap meet (in the parking lot of what was once the arena of an NBA team 40+ years ago) that's been a local institution for decades. But I've only ever gone there a couple of times in 40+ years. Maybe there would be Mego figures there? But more likely, retail goods shoplifted from local grocery stores, alongside used DVDs and bootleg t-shirts and baseball hats!

Wow, thats a huge city compared to Montreal.

I never saw a Mego at any Toys R Us or Walmart here. I did find some at Comic book stores and Collectable Toy stores mind you.

Got real lucky at a few place and got them at cost since they had them for a long time. Been on the hunt for the last few months and been buying what I can find. It brings back memories from the 80s and 90s.

Really love the new figures, Im happy that they did the 50th on the super heroes but also love the new figures.

I am really surprise that you have such a hard time finding them local to yourself. San Diego is quite big. Have you tried Comic book stores or Toy stores ?

Its crazy that so many have a hard time finding them. I thought being in Canada and in a French province would make it harder for me but I am not alone from what I read so far on the forum.

On hindsight, I feel like I got really lucky with modern Mego, actually.

Because they were initially sold in Target stores here in the US (circa 2019), I discovered that they existed very early in the line. And pretty shortly thereafter, they were also available on Amazon. So between those two sources, for a couple of years afterwards, I was pretty much able to get every modern Mego figure I wanted, sometimes even at a discount.

Then, somewhere along the line (2022 maybe?), two occurrences impacted that: (1) Target stopped stocking the new Mego figures and some of the newest Mego figures were sold exclusively through different channels (like Topps x Mego) and Amazon didn't seem to have all the new figures imemdiately either (or sometimes ever), but (2) around the same time, I discovered ZLC and DeepDiscount (and another online retailer, now defunct) that would periodically offer a small selection of the prior waves of Mego figures at pretty steep discounts to their original retail price. As a result of (2), over time, I've been able to get every modern Mego figure I wanted but somehow previously missed (excepting the Medusa), and, in some instances, 'army build' a couple of figures, including the PotA Soldier Ape.

While I am sure my collection of modern Mego figures is modest compared to many other participants in these forums, I am totally happy with it, and it's wayyyy, way larger than I ever expected it to become when I first saw those new Mego figures at a local Target circa 2019.

While I haven't bought newly published comic books for 30 years now, one of the best comic book stores in San Diego is located not far from my parents' home. So I periodically stop by there, after I've seen my parents, because the whole place brings back a lot of happy childhood memories. They don't stock many toys, though, and only occasionally have a small selection of MIB figures from the 1990s (which I assume they've acquired by buying someone's entire vintage comic book collection). I've never seen a Mego figure there for sale. But I have reminisced with the owner about Micronuats a couple of times!
