Maybe this should go in the Customizing forum, but I'm not sure. Before I even knew what customizing was, as a kid I'd make cars out of cigar boxes for my Megos, chairs out of empty spools, and batropes or Spider-Man's web out of twine. I know most of you guys did the same, or did you? If so, what did you make and out of what?

My cousins and I used to use string, tape and straws to make my Megos "fly", and if you made a knot in a piece of nylon cord and slipped Spidey's hand over it you could make him swing and at the end of his swing his hand would slip off the knot and he would "land" on the other side. -
Pre "mini figs" I used to make action figures with my legos. I'd use the smallest one's so that they would be more size appropriate. Mind you there was no articulation and the arms were really nothing more that two straight pieces that seemed slightly out of porportion regardless of my best efforts. In any case my stacks od red, blue, red, blue blue, thin red, yellow, black blocks made a great Superman toy in 1981. Sadly supes was the only one that worked though... creativity limited by primary colors.Comment

For Star Wars figs, my buddy Mike and I made dozens of cool cardboard ships.., fairly sophisticated. Competitive, but in a great way, sort of a Lennon-McCartney healthy one-upsmanship.
Wish I had pictures, but I DID make one for my nephew and nieces' Voyager figures, so I'll have to come up with some pics I took for that..

Well, the few times I attempted to play adventure games w/ AJ and Big Jack, (w/o much success), a Kleenex box would serve as a "pursuit car". I tried to fashion the winch in back (ala GIJoe) w/ a pencil, some yarn, and a paper clip, (but I wasn't mechanically inclined). As an adult, when I first moved out here, and was babysitting to supplement my teaching, a little guy named Logan and I made a base for AJs out of a plant table, some yogurt cups, kleenex boxes, margarine tubs, clear plastic lids, some yarn and some throw pillows. I remember the first night we did this, we were having so much fun, that we forgot about bedtime!"Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."Comment

Shoe boxes and Kleenex boxes were used for various buildings. I also, mentioned this before, but I would take the plastic cups from Swiss Miss pudding and wash them out and use them for chairs. The plastic nets that grapes used to come bunched in were webs for Spidey. It's all good!Comment

Legos were my go-tos for buildings, etc. for my Micronauts, 3.75" Star Trek and Star Wars figures. I'd started customizing old beater Megos into other characters when I was a kid (I remember making a cardboard X-Wing for my homemade Mego Luke Skywalker out of popcorn buckets from the movies)."It's sad that governments are chiefed by the double tongues. There is iron in your words of death for all Comanche to see, and so there is iron in your words of life. No signed paper can hold the iron. It must come from men. The words of Ten Bears carries the same iron of life and death. It is good that warriors such as we meet in the struggle of life... or death. It shall be life."Comment

Let's see...
Leggs eggs packaging served as escape pods & spaceships (ala Mork)
Strawberry green plastic trays turned upside down served as a Kryptonite cage for my Superpowers Superman.
Shoebox with some markers, scissor cuts and milk caps (for wheels) made a happening van for my 3 3/4 inch figures.
Piece of paper folded in half=tent!
Half inflated beachball stuffed into a shoebox was an awesome Ken doll waterbed.
Plastic rings with figural heads placed on a 3 3/4 inch figure served as masks.
Hulk rollerskates served as cars.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
