They won't try to chew you down or lowball you on offers. Not like those idiots on Pawn Stars. I can't stand those guys from Vegas. They always want something for nothing...or practically nothing. I think the thing about the Pickers is that they are collectors and enthusiasts too. The Pawn Star guys are just in it to make a buck...they have no ties to anything they sell cause they don't collect. I like the guys on pickers and would love to go on a pick...just to learn about stuff I don't know about. They see stuff like bikes and stuff that I would have never known about and just passed up if I was on a pick. Good guys. The one show where they found a POTA lunch box I was screaming at the TV..."Screw the POTA lunch box...grab the Johnny Lightning lunch box behind it. POTA are a dime a dozen..."

I look at Pawn Stars like dealers in that they have to "buy low and sell high" to make their money. If you want full market value or what one of their experts says it worth then sell it on ebay or an auction house. Pretty simple.
I'm like Berto in I'd love to go on a pick with AP, just to learn some things and see what they find that doesn't make the TV show. I do wonder how much they actually keep for themselves.sigpic WANTED: Boxed, Carded and Kresge Carded WGSHComment

Speaking of Storage Wars - has any else seen the show where the young couple finds a bunch of Megos in a locker they bought. Mint carded and valued at $12,000.Comment

There was already some discussion here about that Storage Wars episode. I believe some people here exposed it for being a farce? Not that they needed to. Who would put that stuff in storage? In reality, the only things you usually find in those lockers are bed bug infested mattresses and bins of x-mas decorations.
I too think American Pickers is the best show of all these, although recent episodes haven't been that good and it seems they are becoming less and less about antiques and collectibles. They're becoming tiresome now.
The low-balling of the Pawn Star guys are the least annoying thing about (they're a pawn shop afterall). I really hate those guys, especially the son.
But the absolute worst is: Big Brian the Fortune Seller. It's Total BS..
I attended one of his sales in the past. I lost out on some Mego and other vintage toys, but it wasn't anything mind blowing.Comment

I think a lot of us like the American Pickers more because for a many of us it's as much about the hunt as it is obtaining the item. To get out there meeting people, finding barn loads of things and then digging through it all has got to be a blast! Not only do you get to meet other collectors but you get the back story on the stuff they've aquired.Comment

Roberto and I know a store in Farmingdale - Land of Oohs and Oz - who
buys and sells lots of old toys and oddities.
I am always amazed by people coming in with items to sell and they have
no idea what the items are worth, or even have a number in mind when
asked what they want for it.
I would tell them the dumpster in out back - pay me $5 and you can leave the
stuff there.Comment

Just going by what's shown on screen, if you go into the Pawn Stars shop, head straight to Rick. He's the only personable one of the bunch. He seems to at least know half of what they have him say. Big Hoss and the Old Man lowball (and belittle) everyone who walks in. Rick seems to usually offer 50% on the items that are appraised by their experts.
I agree on Pickers appealing to the idea of finding hidden treasure in unassuming places. The wife and I both agree it would be our dream job.

Love to see them finding rare items on Pickers. Hate it when they turn to the oldster and say. "I'll give ya $35 for this Arc of the Covenant."
Pawn Stars are even more dopey. I've seen them pass on items like cars. That were low risk high gain. With them. They require it to be a TOO easy deal.Comment
