RIP Twisted Mego Theatre

Even though I've been out to lunch lately I did hear the news the other day.

Like everyone I'm not surprised, especially since the writing went so south... That wasn't entirely due to writers leaving I've heard so much as writers being let go. For a while Wizard was working on the unpaid-internet-intern-writers-for-exposure turn-and-burn model. Get someone happy to see their name in print for no money and by the time they realize they should be getting paid more, drop them for the next in line - Which was sad. They kind of did that with the TTT megos after a while too though... farming out custom jobs for no cash.

I admit I still did pick up an occasional issue just to spot my old figures in the backgrounds

I sure hate to see it go but I'm pretty sure I'm part of the reason as many toy collectors are since I haven't bought an issue in a couple years due to the internet changing to way I buy and look for info on vintage toys.

My favorite was actually Toy Shop magazine back when it was a black and white newspaper type magazine full of ads from dealers from all over, sadly it went away in early 08. I often remember sitting by the phone checking on my bid for the phone in auctions that were in every issue.
"Auction ends the first 30 minutes after midnight without a bid".
That was back before the internet and ebay and it was alot of fun and everything was paid for by money order.

Was that with the Venom looking Mego on the front cover was a purple tint.....curious cause I have it.

I'm not sure off hand. I do recall an early TF cover image of a Mego-esque Venom fighting Spidey, but I'm not sure if it was that issue #0 or not. My early TF issues are buried deep in a closet or I'd look.

I have been a Toyfare subscriber from issue 1. In fact, I think the first issue was actually #0?
The quality of the comedic writing really dropped noticeably after the original staff members bailed, but I stuck with the magazine because it was still fun to flip through it.
I've saved all the issues. I used to buy AFTRN and AFD early on, but I dropped those once Toyfare came out.
I just sent them a check about 2 weeks ago to extend my subscription for another year.

Always found them funny sure going to miss them. Wonder what the likelyhood that the publishers would allow Mego museum to archive some of the classics to the site .....that would truly be awesome.

The Captain America appearances always made me laugh. I remember one where he's beating up a guy yelling "filthy Greek!" during World War 2, just something about that made me laugh.

Mine was the one where the Famous Covers figures invaded Megoville.

Like when every celebrity dies I've found myself reflecting on the life that was Toyfare's. The main thing that really struck me was how cool most of their cover's were.

Also I didn't realize how many exclusives they released. While I always passed on the offers I did think it was cool that they had them.

Wow, the more I look the sadder I get. The early days really were the best. Funny stuff on almost every page.

That sums it up for me. I started Reading it at issue 2 that a friend had and went back and purchased the first . I just renewed my subscription as well, first issue was due in a few weeks with issue 164.
I found it was lacking. I used to laugh my butt off reading it. But it did seem like it took 20 minutes now. I think i still got it just because i could say i was there from the start.
I think toyfare is totally responsible for the mego resurgence.

I went down with the ship, subscriber from day one. Recent issues were still fun although it usually took me 20 minutes to finish it.

Toyfare reintroduced the word "mego" to a lot of people and they gave the Museum and Megomeet some really nice press, I'll miss them.

I loved the clssic episodes of TMT or TTT, but in the last few years I would only pick up an occasional issue and then I finally dropped it after the issues got thinner and thinner.

I loved some of the old Twisted Mego Theater comics. Spider-man was awesome in it. He was such a jerk! My favorite was the one where the Borg move in next door to Spidey and they start "assimilating" all his stuff!
