Toyfare went downhill fast in 2010. They reduced the number of pages, really slimming down, and the jokes got stale. This used to be my favorite toy mag.

Twisted Toyfare Theatre went downhill when their best writers defected to Robot Chicken. The laffs in each issue were fewer and then 2 years ago they reduced the page count. I stopped buying last year. It was just too watered down.

I Still have Toyfare issue one sealed somewhere in storage. I used to love reading Twisted Mego Theater.

Toyfare really went downhill over the last few years. I never understood why they would use their staff in stories in the mag. Why do I care about their private jokes amongst each other? I haven't read an issue in years and it seems like many other haven't. Wizard is basically Entertainment Weekly with a higher price tag.

Back Issue! and Alter Ego just increased their frequency...In depth explorations of comic history is something that I much prefer to read in a magazine or book.

The fact that they target an older audience no doubt accounts for the desire to still have a printed magazine. Toyfare just wasn't the same for me when they went from Twisted "MEGO" Theater to Twisted "Toyfare" Theater. Just wasn't as funny anymore.

Still it was a great rag back in the action figure collecting heyday.

I remember talking to the Shamus brothers about a year or so after their premiere at a con. Them and Brian Cunningham were just geeks like me who invested a lot of their time amd money doing something they were passionate about. When that "competitor" decided to put out Hero Illustrated, I asked if they were concerned about selling ads. They laughed. They were right.

I'm not surprised by the cancellation. Their mags were getting thinner each month and with instant news on the web, they were scooped months in advance. The only thing they had left was interviews. Sad to see them go away.

Wizard's focus on the new and hot comic news, readily available on any comic-related news site, killed it. Same with ToyFare.

I just remembered, I had a subscription to Toyfare at one time! For several years there I never missed an issue of either book.

I really really liked toyfare the first couple years, It trailed off into stuff i didn't care about later. I haven't bought an issue for years.

Wizard going away - wow! That is an end of an era. It was THE comics magazine. Is there a new alternate publication(s)? Or has the internet killed the need for a periodical in this genre completely?

I remember seeing the first or second Toyfare (Star Wars landwalker on cover) at the airport in San Diego in 1997, and reading it on the flight home to NY. I was really into Playmates Star Trek at the time, and I was blown away that this mag had such a great combination of current toy talk and humor.

I read it faithfully for years, and took part in their Trek and Simpsons mailaways, which were fairly nightmarish from a consumer standpoint.

Stopped reading the magazine probably around 2004.
