    1973 World's Greatest Superheroes Ad

This great black and white ad featuring the orignal four Mego World's Greatest Superheroes is courtesy of Rob Kelly and was in a December 1973 issue of Creepy. If you're into Black and White Comic Magazines, check out the terrific blog All in black and white for 75 cents

Interesting. I know there was a lot of talk about Mego's TV campaigns, but I don't know that I've seen ads this early on. Are there other '72 or '73 hero ads out there?

That's remarkable. I love how it suggests them holding up books like bookends. Yeah, that might not work so well.

Beautiful ad. If I saw that as a kid,
I would have annoyed Mom and Dad constantly until the took me to the store.

Its pretty interesting how they pushed these for what must have been an older audience. From models for aspiring comic book artists, to subjects of Stop Motion Animated movies, to bookends or trophies. Very cool, and another great addition to the Ad Archive (one of my favorite resources).

Hence the reason my mom never let me keep the toy circulars!

I like how the ad suggests their use as models for comic art. Pretty forward thinking in the days when fans going pro was still pretty new. Of course comic artist HAVE used Megos for models in their art. Alex Ross is one for instance.

Awesome ad! And even though I don't own ANY B&W comic mags, I really dig Rob's "All in Black and White" site.

Yup I was thinking the same thing about Alex Ross when I read the ad!
