Cut-out cards from the backs of the 8" boxes?

You guys know the ones...the 6" X 3" 'cards' that Mego intended to be cut-out from the backs of the window boxes?
Are these hard to obtain? My wife brought up a good point earlier - I'd like to try and collect all of these. I'd have to do a bit more research as to WHO exactly was released in said window boxes, but either way, I'd like them all.

Were they reproduced somewhere other than repro boxes, and for that matter, were ALL of the WGSH window/solid boxes reproduced?

    Thanks and take care -

The only heroes not issued in boxes with the cut-out cards are the original 8 (Bats, Robin, Supes, Aquaman, Tarzan, Shazam, Spidey and Cap). All the others, including the Gals and Villains, have them. Of course the only way to get original ones is to cut up an original box.

No one to my knowledge has reproduced them as cut-outs, only on repro boxes.

Edited to add that this information is available in the galleries - most if not all. Sometimes I feel people forget it's there full of all kinds on information.

Didn't someone do these as magnets or on a sheet, or something a while back?
It's not a doll it's an action figure.

I've seen the Aurora Monster and Hero models as magnets but not the Mego WGSHs. That's not to say they've never been done.

I've never seen cut-outs for sale on ebay. Figure some people must've saved em.

When I was a little kid I used to cut the small pictures off the sides and carry a set to school and play with them.

I did the same Scott. I remember cutting up the boxes to my Shazam and Torch. I kept the back and sides for years.

I see the odd one here and there, normally in lots. For years I had a King Arthur, I think it would take a long time to collect 'em all.

Interesting. You know, I never thought about whether or not any 70's kid out there actually collected the Mego box cards before. Like Mego Scott said, someone somewhere must've saved them. When I was a kid I remember just tossing the box in the trash in shopping plaza so I must not have had a great interest in the box backs. It would be cool to see a set of them on display though, I still love that Mego artwork, so many fond memories.

I've got a couple of monster boxbacks, but have rarely seen any others show up in lots.
Seems like most folks wanted to hold onto the whole box or none at all. Unlike cardbacks which often were tucked away after opening.

The fridge magnet idea is pretty cool. Or maybe someone could make a series of baseball sized collector cards with pictures and info from the Mego lines on them.

The last Marvel series (Fantastic Four, Conan and Thor) were not released as cut-outs either...

Thanks for all of the info guys...and so prompt at that!

ScottA - Yes sir...the Galleries...I'm very familiar with those. The thing is, there is SO much to learn and absorb that I sometimes miss things.

I would LOVE these cut-out cards...rather repro or 'real', doesnt matter to me.

Rche - AGREED sir, as to the keeping of packaging. As to the Monsters' cardbacks/boxes, lord, I'd swim the seven seas to be able to own some of those!

I'm sure one of our card and box makers like Anthony or Mike could make a set one day with little difficulty. I assume you've seen their work. Toy Room and Mego73 are their screen names here. Their work makes my customs collection...the figures aren't half as cool without the accompanying cards. Look them up!

Before repros and CTVT I had taken the cut-outs from all 5 original Super Knight boxes (they were all damaged anyway) and had them framed into one picture. I plan to hang it in my toyroom someday.

I have a couple of the knight cut outs too. That makes three of us. It sounds from this small sampling that for some reason, the knights may have been cut out more often???

Maybe it is quicker and safer to cut out pictures from repro boxes. Some members of this site makes great top notch repro boxes... Just a kind though...
