Pretty cool to see the Mego items in the Marx catalog,
but damn, I can't imagine it will sell at this price.

MARX TOYS ultra rare original 1980 Trade Catalogue - eBay (item 390155213125 end time Dec-07-10 02:56:28 PST)

I've drooled over that one before, the majority of the items in there are things I love. That price however, is not so lovable.

Why would they have Mego's in a Marx catalog ?

They were 2 seperate companies, right ?

in certian countries, sonetimes only one US company was allowed to sell items.
so any other U.S. company had to go threw that manufacture who held the lincense in the counrty.

In the case of the UK, Mego didn't have a UK branch so they relied on selling lines to distributors that did. US companies such as Ideal and Marx/Combex/Tomland had UK divisions that carried US competitor lines. Mego also struck deals with several "home grown" distributers in the UK like Wiggens Teape, Cecil Coleman and the Palitoy group of companies.

Although Palitoy was owned by the same US parent company as Kenner in the 1970s, yet they sold Mego and Hasbro lines.

One of the nice things about finding distributors is they are stuck with the inventory and they had to pay with letters of credit. It's why things that were cancelled in the US (like the magnetic heroes or the black hole humanoid) surface in foreign markets.
