2010- The year Of Mego Cometh..(again)

I just went through my Entertainment Earth mag that came in the mail. I counted a total of 46 different 8" clothed mego-style figures for sale at this very moment.
There is nothing listed that has not already been seen here on the MM, but when you see them all together at the same time, it is quite impressive.
One of the cool things is that a lot of interests are represented, from hero's, tv shows, to monsters and Sci-Fi.
It is also interesting to see the different levels of quality in the lines released.
It is that alone, IMO, that will fuel all these lines to compete with each other on every level, so we end up with some pretty cool stuff.

I'm hopeful for this year, depends on a couple of factors. Unless folks want to buy the "early bird kit" consisting of a box and a sloppily written IOU. Hey, it worked for Kenner...

              I wouldn't Say that .
              For me, 46 re-Megos = 5 I have actual interest in.
I just would like more characters, well..., That I like, that turns into needs that are purchased.

Understood, I just thought your original statement came off more negative, the thread was about how great it was to see 8" monsters, sci fi, superheroes, celebrities and TV characters again, especially in this volume.

We've got eight companies competing for our dollar with an array of 8" products, this kind of thing hasn't happened since we were in short pants. Next year could see some really cool things pop up.

Not everything available appeals to me either. I'm probably hovering at 1/4 of what is out there but I'm just happy to see it happen. If it succeeds, we'll likely all find something we enjoy.

I think it's only in this place that you can read it as competition between the individual companies/lines in the 8" format, for us hardcore Mego enthusiasts who now have to pick and choose depending on our budgets.

Out there on the retail shelves, it's more a question of competing with other scales/formats as well as licenses that aren't in the 8" format, and I see it more as the different companies in question united in a 8" format movement.

After all, The Venture Brothers don't really compete with Dark Shadows or Buck Rogers given that they all have their individual fan bases.

Whereas I always see the choices kids have to make in the Toy aisles between a Retro Action Mattel Batman, The Dark Knight movie Batman, DC Universe Classics Batman, Infinite Heroes Batman, and all manner of Brave and Bold Batman.

With the new monster explosion, it is that area which should be interesting to see if 8" can carve a niche from the current dominating 6" sculpted figures and 12" formats. The more Monsters released in 8" that complement each other from various companies, the better the chances that the format will survive. Even though Emce/Diamond only releases two a year of the Universal, there is a benefit of having other companies and licenses like Dark Shadows and Lincolnstein around to keep that momentum going.

I think there is great crossover for the Emce Treks to complement something like Buck Rogers. While you are waiting for the next wave of Treks, add Buck and Tigerman to your collection! Let your Spock/Hawk fanfic come to life through action figures.

You are missing the point BK. When was the last time there were 5 mego style figures you could buy that you were interested in, 1983?
Truth be told, I only have 3 so far. I have interest in a few more.
BUT, I really dig the fact that so much stuff is out there. I am more excited by this current trend in a dead scale and format coming back to life. The more this trend expands, the better chance you have of seeing things you want getting produced.

The stuff I'm looking forward to the Most, is the new EMCE Star Trek. I hope the line continues to expand.

                      Also Flash Gordon...and the Wolfman.

                        I'd buy one Brian.

Heck, if you were able to toss in something exclusive to pre-orders like an alternate outfit or an accessory I would bet you would sell quite a few "early birds."

Brian has been very cool about how long this project is taking.

I have to keep poking the factory to get updates and samples.
