The Minty Mintness of Mint (redux)

I can't always afford to buy absolutely mint stuff, but when I come across it, especially unexpectedly, it just seems so satisfying.

Most of the stuff I have falls squarely into the C.7-8 category. Good stuff, but with some flaws here and there. Sometimes, however, I find some crisp, mint figures and its just awesome. Especially loose.

I just picked up two boxed West figures, Cochise and Sitting Bull. They looked pretty good in the pics and each included all their original accessories (a nice addition in and of itself), but we all know things usually look a little better in the pictures. I was very pleasantly surprised that the figures are dead mint. Colors are crisp and bright, fabrics look never bent. I'm not sure what it is about coming across loose, minty figures, but I think they great an even greater feeling of nostalgia. Their brand new-ness really transports me to those first few childhood days with a new toy.

(((redux because I had this same reaction and wrote about it around 3 years ago. I was just geeking out so much I had to post again)))

That is something to savour, I'm usually pretty easy going when it comes to condition but when you get that one piece that is so crisp, it really makes you appreciate it more.

Especially when you aren't expecting it.

I think what is so great about finding a truly mint piece is the fact of how it takes you back to standing in a toy store as a 10 year-old looking at what you want on the shelf. Unstained, untorn, unbroken, complete-with-nothing-missing goodness.

It's the feeling you get on Christmas morning when you break it out of the package, hold it in your hands for the first time and smile....knowing that it will soon be broken or that the batteries will go out or that you will lose a part. But for this one moment...ahhhhhhh.

I feel ya on the Geek Out Wee... congrats on the score!! What sort of condition are the boxes in?!!

Minty Megos cause me giddiness every time... especialy, as Brian noted, when unexpected! I got my Batman & Robin under similar circumstances as you Wee. Except my auction pics weren't very good, the auction jibba jabba was non-existant, and my boxes are shabby. The Dynamic Duo were being sold as a set and I was the only one brave/uninformed/stupid enough to dang sure win that auction.

The figs are just perfect... it's like... yeah, that Time Machine fantasy come to life! If they had been sold as loose figures and properly photographed and described, I don't think I could have justified the price.

Post some pics of your New guys, yo!

Ah yes, there's nothing like getting a crisp, minty figure with vivid colours (I got a minty boxed Cochise awhile back too. The red and green in his outfit looks stunning on a mint figure ) . I love it when I buy something and it ends up being in even better condition than I expected.

Like you, I also tend towards the c8 range, sometimes I luck into a c9, but usually I have some clean up or flaw that I feel the need to upgrade. However, 3 of the 4 Willers in my collection came right out of the original baggies. The colors on those figures made it even more special. Talk about crisp! They kind of make everything else look bad.
