    that mego magic

    Hello,

I recently acquired some Wizard of Oz Megos and observed that the line really illustrates the range of creativity, quality, care that exists. Dorothy and the Tin Woodsman, for instance are two of the most gorgeous megos I have ever held in my hand. Whereas the Scarecrow and Lion, leave a little to be desired.

Don't get me wrong, I am thrilled to have them all. I never owned anything from this line, even when I was little. They have oodles of that goofy mego charm we all know and love : )

Just recently I too aquired Dorothy and The Tin Man. Like you, I was amazed at the accuracy on these figures - It really is stunning and I think often overlooked.

It was a tough call then whether to collect the rest of the set. In the end I decided not to bother and have already sold them on. I'm glad I bought them just to see them up close but the appeal of a full set just wasn't strong enough for me. The wife hated them too - she's not often very vocal about these things but this time she was.
"I should say I`m very much cleverer than any of the people who put me here. As a matter of fact, I could leave any time I wanted. It`s only a doll`s house after all. Anyway, I don`t mind. I like dolls" - The Mad Hatter, Arkham Asylum.

      agreed!

      Hi Paul,

I think its great that your wife felt so strongly : )

Yeah, I doubt I will pursue the other figures very aggressively. I feel content having the four principal characters.

      Take care,

      Chris

          true!

You're right, the four I bought were MIB. They were very affordable.

I am not a fan of the movie but I will admit to thinking the figures are a nice and happy representation of the film. Mego spent a lot of time on the toys and they do represent a company at the pique of their talent.

Whenever non-collectors see my Mego display -- they always comment about the Wizard of Oz figures. I think they look great and are something that everyone can relate to (ie non-super heroes fans).

The witch is pretty cool too you should consider picking her up.

                thanks!

I'll keep an eye out on ebay for one. The four I have need an adversary, after all : )

My girlfriend and I just saw Wicked, the musical, which added to my interest in wanting the megos. I highly recommend the show, if you get the opportunity.

The WOZ line is definitely one of Mego's best efforts as far as likenesses go. You can really see the actors in the sculpts.
