Super-Gals are more expensive than Superheroes? Does that mean women are more valuable?
I can clearly remember my dad's girlfriend buying me Big Jack in the Macy's Toy Department when I was around 10. This was after I was drooling over the Mattel toys page in my Ice-Follies program.
"Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."
That's seriously nice newspaper art. TheWild Bill on the horse is cool. That WW drawing is fantastic. She and Penguin look like photo tracings but the Batman almost looks like the guy just drew from a sample.
The Apes were more money than the other Mego stuff? That's kinda kooky.
Actually, when Neal Kublan explained getting the Ape license to me, he said Mego had to offer signifigantly more than AHI to get it. So I guess we all paid for it in the end.

I can still remember going in to Venture and seeing a whole shelf of carded (or whatever the not-box packaging is called) batcopters, batcycles, and batmobiles. Took me 25 years to finally get a batcopter . . .
Ahh Yes, Good old Venture. I remember going there with the parents many, many moons ago. I actually went to one when it was closing here in STL. It was kind of a bitter sweet deal. While I hated to see another vintage store close and go out of business I did enjoy buying up some of their shelving, pegs and other misc. store stuff in a going out of business auction. Some where around here I think I even have a couple of their old tagging guns with rolls of unused price tags in a tote stashed away.
I said/typed this before, but I will type it again. I love looking at vintage ads/pictures of toys. Especially Mego's.
Enjoy what you like, and let others enjoy what they like. (C) Azrak 2009
Obviously, it's all about the toys, but for me, there is another set of memories that these ads set off.
I got to go to work for a local paper when I was in Grade Six and the Publisher was this great guy who let me learn every phase of the Small Town Newspaper. Anyway, I can look at an ad like this and see what went into making it. I'm sure the many folks on the board who geek out about Graphic Arts can remember seeing or at least studying the old paste-up technique and clip-art books that were used to create the ads from that time frame.

I think what's throwing me off is the prices between the Apes and Monsters. But I do get what your saying.
