    Greetings programs!

Hi there, glad I could join you. Let me tell you alittle about myself.

I got in on probably the tail end of the 8" MEGO series, I was born in 1973. I remember owning Superman, Spiderman and The Joker, all of which sadly are lost to time. I do however happen to have a CHiPs Ponch, turning zombie I'm afraid, and nursing a broken knee peg. He's missing his stickers, but everything else is present and accounted for.

A few months ago while at my in-laws home with my wife and son, my MIL was getting boxes of old toys out for my son to play with. Most of these toys belonged to my BIL's and hadn't seen daylight for almost a decade. Imagine my surprise when I opened one, and there on top was a MEGO Hulk (minus purple pants).

Nostalgia took over and here I am. Since finding this forum, I've been flooded with all sorts of ideas for custom figures, so I hope to gain all sorts of knowledge on the arcane ways of MEGO customizing.

I've customized several small action figures, as well as built some models. I love to sculpt and presently work as a graphic designer. My other hobby is replica prop collecting and building.

I'm afraid I'm not up to speed on all the details of MEGO figures and the overall "lingo" involved, so if I seem to lag behind, be patient.

and don't worry about the lingo. This stuff is far from innate. We've all picked it up over the years and with this hobby and these people, you could be here for years. Enjoy!

Except when refering to the 12" Captain America with the enormous head. He is properly called "The Most Best 12" Action Figure Ever Made" :-P

Welcome aboard spooky, good to have you here.
Looking forward to your customs, especially some of your sculpts.
And what replica props have you built so far? Got any pics?

This was almost exactly my story. My son in the In-laws old toy box. I've picked up a few since then.

                  Welcome aboard!

Thanks for the warm welcome, I really look forward to hanging out here and contributing.

Meule, my main interest is in prop replicas from Alien and Aliens, but I've branched out into other favorite films like Star Wars, Hellraiser, DUNE. One of the biggest building tasks I've had so far was to assemble and paint a 1:1 Aliens stasis tube and facehugger!
You can just barely see part of it in this photo...can't believe I don't have a better one.

All that other stuff is what I've collected/built from Alien/Aliens.

Here's a custom Aeon Flux figure built on a Microwoman body...

and a diorama using McFarlane movie maniac Terminator figures...

an custom Alien figure built on a Hot Toys 3&3/4" Aliens warrior...

This one was really fun, a custom build of a "what if" idea. Ever wondered what happened to Luke's hand after it was cut off by Darth Vader in ESB?
Someone found it and incased it in carbonite!

Wow. You just made my week Spooky! Honestly, my fingers are speechless... I can't express how cool I think that is! I'm a hopeless SW Fanboi, and to me, that is the best fan made prop I have ever seen. It's just such a GREAT idea!

[geek]If you're as big a SW Dork as I am, you remember that in Zahn's The Last Command the issue of Luke's hand was kind of addressed when Mara Jade had to fight a clone of luke that The Emperor had grown, having retrieved the hand from Bespin. Although never refered to as being encased in carbonite, there was a passing reference to the Emperor having kept the hand in his Mount Tantiss Storehouse on Wayland.

I just always assumed that it was kept in carbonite, cause that made Good Sense to me. Then here you come along and you have made the &$%%* thing and it looks GREAT!! Really Spooky, this is just TOO cool!! [/geek]

UOBob, wow, that is probably the single best compliment anyone has given me on that project, you are too kind! It was a blast because I didn't have to build it within the confines of "known" props. This wasn't seen anywhere so I had free reign. I can't say I've read those comics, but a few people on other boards mentioned them after I had posted. I sold it a few months back, and was a little sad to see it go, but I can see all the things I did wrong and could probably build a better version. The hand itself got a little deformed in the process, you can see the fingers are "wonky".

Meule - thanks. I bought that skull around 10 years ago and finally built a good display for it. I'm afraid I haven't done any Batman replicas.

Novels. By Timothy Zahn:Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, & The Last Command... often informally refered to as The Thrawn Trilogy. If you like the Star Wars, I can't reccomend them enough... hands down the best Extended Universe material ever written, with Last Command being, in my opinion, the best SW story ever told.

                              This wasn't seen anywhere
It looks JUST like the one in my head!

I guess that makes a moot point of the first question I had for you when I saw it! :(
