    knee pins

i need to get knee pins and am wondering who makes the best ones? i've used some of them before long long time ago and wasnt really too thrilled with them bec the knees were still pretty loose. i used vice grips to make sure that they were connected together but the leg felt like it was going to come off at anytime. any recommendations?

    thanks

When you use your vice-grips to snap them in........ be sure they're really snapped properly.
If snapped right, you should hear a slight POP when they're in.
Use broken throw-away plastic pieces as a protector to keep your grips from marking up the legs... These broken protector pieces will also give your grips the proper leverage for the final perfect POP.

I've found that Doc Mego's pins for 12" guys need a little whittling down in order to fit. Took me forever to get a good fit using a pocket knife to make to modifications. Would have taken about 2 seconds if I had a Dremel.

Doc's work fine for me. Every once in a while I get one that is a little loose, but usually just use it in on a different figure and it works fine.

I could never get the 12" ones to work at all (even some modified ones that Doc tried). Which piece are you whittling down, and where? I'd like to try it if I can. For now, I've given up and am using nylon screws (at least they are easily removable if a better solution presents itself)

Ok, all this applies only to the pins for the 12" guys.

Here are the collars that the pins go into. The Mego collar is just a tiny bit taller then the DM one, thus the Mego one goes just a tiny bit deeper into the leg hole than the DM one, ensuring a proper fit.

I didn't have a good idea for making the DM cylinder (or pin) longer, so I filed and whittled away at the flange atop the cylinder, reducing it's thickness as much as possible while still ensuring that there would be enough of it left to prevent the collar from just sliding through the leg hole. This allowed the cylinder to penetrate just a hair farther into the leg and attain good lock up with the pin coming in from the other side.

This was a PITA and I hacked up 3 collars and a fingertip before I got the fourth one just right. I believe it would have been a breeze with a rotary tool instead of a knife.

If you don't mind doing a little leg surgery, a much quicker option would be to deepen the leg hole that the collar goes into.

Thanks for all the info! I give you a lot of credit for having the patience to do all that, I don't think I would want to try. I always thought that the problem was with Doc's pins, but I now see that it's the collar that's the wrong size. It's probably only a couple millimetres, but it sure makes a difference.

Probably too much time/effort for a lame US release Bond in a crappy box, but I felt sorry for the little guy :(
