Need Opinions On My Kid Flash

Hey everyone. I know I've been asking a lot of questions lately, but if you could bear with me for one more I'd like to get your opinions on my Kid Flash figure. I won this on eBay a few weeks back, and I have some concerns about the head paint, especially the hair and red bolts. I thought they might have been repainted at some point in time because they are pretty glossy as you can see from the pictures. I've looked at a lot of other Kid Flash figures, and while some appear somewhat glossy others are rather dull. If it is a repaint, whoever did it did a great job matching the bolt color with the rest of the outfit. I was just wondering those of you who currently own this figure or have owned one in the past could give me your opinion on the head paint. I've taken pictures from every angle to help. Thanks in advance.

    Matt

The fact that the colors as well as textures are matched so well seems like an indication that the paint on the hair and bolts is original. If you look at the tips of the wings from the back, you'll see that the paint doesn't completely cover, the same with mine which hasn't been retouched. I think that touched-up figures often are a little too perfect looking. I'll go take a pic of mine and post shortly.

Edited to add: Now that I'm looking at it a little more closely, could someone take a look at the nose? I was just thinking how awesome it is that this Kid Flash doesn't have the typical nose rubs, but to me it looks a little odd. Especially take notice of the first photo and the one with his head tilted slightly foreward. Does anyone else think the nose looks a tad darker, along with a little extra paint where the mask goes over the nose?

Mine looks pretty darn smiliar to yours, even with that l'il bit of yellow on the nostril.

Thanks for the replies. Del, I noticed that as well after I took the pictures. He does have a few nose rubs, particularly on the left side tip, as well as a few spots on the face where the paint seems to be a little thinner allowing the yellow color to show through a bit. These imperfections don't show up very well in the pictures.

My opinion is that not only the hair and wings, but also the entire nose has been repainted. The nose is the most glaring to me actually and you did not mention it. Looks to have a nose rub after being repainted but its definitely repainted. The color of the wings looks suspect to me. And the gloss of the hair is too much. Also when looking at the left side of his head, the area right behind the curl seems to have a 1mm or so area at the hairline that is more matte before the gloss begins above it. I think you got a head that was almost entirely repainted. The rear snap appears to be resewn as well. Just my opinion...

I can't really see anything on the wings and hair - maybe if I held it side-by-side with another one. But I think the nose is really obvious. I tried to take some pics with my camera, but I can't get anything nearly as clear as your photos, Gummi. It probably doesn't help that it's dark here, so I was stuck taking pictures while Kid Flash was standing on my kitchen counter. If no one else posts comparison photos, I'll try and get some in natural light tomorrow.

Any chance the original owner might have cleaned the head with Armor All and that left a shiny residual on it? I've seen that effect before on heads that were cleaned with that stuff.

I didn't know that. I'll try to find out. Thanks.

The top of the head that Gummi has pictured looks almost black where mine looks dark brown. I could be wrong, but maybe the top of the head looks repainted? Or maybe it is just the color in the pictures.

It's a very dark brown color.

Mine came from a damaged card but the figure is mint and looking at mine it does look very similar to yours but mine doesn't seem to shine as much. Is it the flash or is it really shiney? My nose shows a little yellow on it too but your flesh seems darker and thicker than mine. The hair does too.

Not sure if it's repainted I'm thinking it's possible but the outfit on this looks so nice that the figure could be a really mint example with the new figure glow to it but one thing that makes me say it's been touched up is the nose. The paint on the mask's bridge of the nose part, the paint goes on the mask a little, on mine it doesn't and the other's I've seen it doesn't either. Looks like a good retouch if it is.

I have a light directly overhead to show how glossy the paint is. It's not quite that glossy under normal room lighting. I was so fixated on the hair and bolts that I didn't even consider the nose paint. It looks like I'll be adding Kid Flash to my wanted post in the classifieds once more. Ebay strikes again!

It can be a real challenge at times as it pertains to buying pristine figures. Some times pictures and basic descriptions just is not enough. Best of luck to you finding the one that you will keep and treasure.

p.s. Make sure to ask lots and lots of questions before you make your next leap/purchase. If you are not sure of something be sure to ask so you will know. Just a friendly tip. Trying to help.

What he said - exactly what I thought when I looked at it. The white thread on the snap sticks out like a sore thumb, as does the touch-up on the nose.
