    More Star Trek Science Kits

Todays Update: Two More Star Trek Science Kits.

Today's entry is our final two shots of the ill fated 1977 Mego Star Trek Science kits including a sextant. Neat concept but possible Mego should have "trekked them up 35% more" in presentation. Betchya they'd have had killer Hal Shull artwork on the packaging.

Tomorrow: We wrap with the Mego Lost Archive with the best entry yet. Seriously, it's delicious....

I can see why these were duds if they were shown to toy buyers like that....

The sextant may be my favourite of the bunch.

What's that thing in the top photo?
"Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."

Not hard to see why these failed. If The Toyroom had been on the job, things might have been different. I'll add that the tech for TOS was all blinking lights and whistles, and this line has almost none of that potential charm. 'On/Off' - buy me two mom?

I don't know, even the catalog doesn't tell you what it is. I think it's supposed to be a microscope projector.

Agreed, they're a little too generic.

That top thing looks like it comes from one of the hallway sets of the Enterprise, or possibly from Sick Bay.

But other than that, they are barely Trekkie.

It seems like a bad idea trying to market these to kids because the .1% of kids that would want a sextant would probably not want it associated with a TV show.

Overall ... as an adult I say neat stuff

As a child I would say i'd rather have the communicators or figures

You have to wonder how many kids would ask for a sextant for Christmas? Santa would have looked at the kid funny and called for elf security.

I think it is some sort of microscope viewer/projector. You can see the clips on the base under which you'd put a glass slide. The piece above looks like it would hold some type of magnifying lens.

And I still wouldn't want it.

None of these would've thrilled me as a kid

Oh, and when you click on the pic of that first whatever it is in the galleries, you get "Whoops, that page doesn't exist"
