    The Mego Star Trek Telescope

Todays Update: The Star Trek Telescope.

Today we're kicking off a wild week of Star Trek prototypes with the telescope, one of many science based items Mego pitched in 1976 that sadly didn't make it to market. All week we'll be featuring never released photographs of unproduced Star trek items including a never before seen playset.

Any insight on why none of this Star Trek stuff made it to the shelves? Was the phenomenon dying in 76-77?

Well that isn't best telescope in the world, but it's a cool insight into the mind of Mego.

I wonder if these things were rejected b/c of the less play/more educational value? Although the planetarium was really cool. Did that ever get produced?

I would have totally used this for surveillance on the alien older sister of one of my neighborhood buddies.

The Planetarium saw production but in really limited quantities, it may be the rarest Mego trek piece ever made.

Something tells me these psuedo science toys were a bit of a reach for toy buyers.

Unless this bad boy shot phasers out of the front, I would have definitely passed on this one in the 70's.

Although I'm not sure if shopping at Kiddie City really made me a "buyer."

Now if they put some kind of handle on the bottom to make it look more like a gun, they might have been able to make these.

It looks a little funkier than your average telescope, but nothing on this one says Star Trek. Not really surprised this didn't get made
