The Mego Laverne and Shirley Game?

Todays Update: The Prototype Laverne and Shirley Game.

We begin our second week of the lost archive with an unusual choice, this is a proposed Mego Laverne and Shirley boardgame and it's one of three licensed board games that Mego never got off the ground in 1977.

Can't see this being a huge selling success, good thing it was never made

The Happy Days board game was quite popular back then so I can see some cross-over appeal.

L&S was the number two show for the 76-77 season and #1 for 77-78 so the iron was definitely hot.

It should come with beer bootle pieces and not telephones.

Unless this was marketed for adults, I couldn't see any parent wanted to purchase a game w/ so much beer in it!

What do you mean? Most of my childhood was spent boozing and desperately trying to find a date.

Pretty rough prototype. just used for proof of concept I assume?

I'm surprised Mego didnt get into board games. Its a fairly cheap outlay for what was a still very popular product in that era. They had the licenses, thats for sure.

This reminds me of a question I've had for awhile now...Did all of Megos license deals give them first chance at any type of product? I know the licenses were not as fragmented and product/project specific as they are today, and that seems to have allowed Mego to make pretty much whatever they wanted with the licenses they had, yet somehow left wiggle room for some of the rack toys and such from AHi and other licensees!?

Oddly enough, I was at an antique mall yesterday and came across a Laverne and Shirley board game. Not sure who made it.

Any game with a "David St. Hubbins" card can't be all bad!
Nostalgia just ain’t what it used to be.
