Such a great idea, I'm surprised it didn't make it. Did he send you a photo or the original drawing?

I had the dukes set, and after going over the ramp, maybe 1 out of 10 times the car made the jump and re-slotted correctly.

Vinny Baiera worked on that Dukes set as well, infact he sent me pictures of it mixed in with these.

It's just a picture of the box, he did it for knockerbocker (where he obviously went after mego) it got released to my knowledge.

was it the slot car set or the barn buster set?

Ideal made the Dukes slot car set

and knickerbocker made the barn buster set which isn't a slot car set but a friction car that had ramps and a barn to jump through

I am wondering mostly because on a dukes of hazzard collectors board there was talk about knickerbocker tried to put out a slot car set, but didnt' have the means of competeing with the long term slot car producers. Be kind of cool if this was true and there's proof.

My mistake, it's not a true slot car set. Here is what I guess is the original box to the barnbusters set?

Since when does the General have a big spoiler on the back? I'm betting on a mold reuse here.

A buddy of mine had the Dukes slot car set. He brought it to college with him, and we played with it from time to time!

I had the barnbuster set too, and the spoiler is actually necessary to keep the car from flipping over.

Oh man, that slot car set would've been awesome. I don't know anyone who didn't love playing with slot cars as a kid. This would've sold like crazy, I'm surprised this never got made

What a missed opportunity! Mego would have gotten a lot of mileage out of proprietary slot car technology. Besides Starsky and the Dukes, they could have put out a couple of WGSH sets--Batmobile/Jokermobile-Spidercar/Goblin glider (?), a CHiP's set would have been a no brainer too. Heck, even a Grease set to make a buck off of their never used license. They briefly had a Flintstones license...could have put out a Flintmobile versus that log car of Barneys.....the possibilities are endless...they could have challenged AFX and Tyco at the time.
