Photo of My Megos from 1979

So this 4th of July, my mother was going through some old photos. For those of you who were on the east coast of the U.S. in Feb of '79 we had a really big snow similar to the likes of what we went through this year. So, while going through the images of the big snow from 31 years ago, this image was in the mix. I remembered setting up everything and getting the cape just right; I just didn't remember it was during that big snow. My scanner is on the fritz, so I took a macro with my digital of the original photo. In the shot, Bats & Joker are standing on the roof of a cardboard "clubhouse" I had ordered off the back of the PALS vitamins package years earlier. I put it back together and created this rooftop scene. Note the box to a Corgi Tank is the Joker's jewel to swipe and behind him is the plastic container to a "Swiss Miss Pudding." I saved and washed out the containers and used them as chairs for my Megos. Also, note that my RC Bats was going on 7 years old at the time and his cape is faded to the same gray/purple as it is now.
    It's all good!

Super cool! How did you get his cape to do that? Fish hooks, like the show? I remember wanting that Pal clubhouse when I was 5. But alas, the vitamins turned my teeth dark and I wasn't allowed any past the first bottle. (we switched to Flintstones). But that is a terrific action shot! Nice photography for a kid!

I am jealous. . . . . .and of course we know that 3 minutes later, Batman was tied to some buzz saw (Mums electric carving knife), and left for dead. . . .while the Joker ran off to the beach with Barbie, (Bath tub - and isn't Mum gonna be Pizzed. . . . .when she finds 1/2 the sand from the Sand pit in the bath tub).

Great pic! I love seeing old photos showing our favorite toys at play. I still have several of my original figures, even though a couple of them are really trashed, I still have them.

I can remember seeing some old pictures of me and my brother and sister with MEGOS and SMDM toys and such, but I haven't been able to find them. I found a picture of my sister with her Bionic Woman at Christmas morning, but that's the only one so far, but I haven't given up looking. I look thru more pictures every time I make it back home. I'll find them one of these days!

How did you get his cape to do that?
That's the funny thing. When I saw the picture, the memory came flooding back. His cape was staying that way if I bent the fabric near the cowl at the right spot and I thought it was cool enough to take a picture, so that is when I set the whole thing up.
                      How old were you then?
I would have just turned 11 in Nov of '78 so in about a year or two the world of Mego would slowly come to a temporary end until I found this place and my little guys in storage a few years ago. In terms of customizing, here's a story: I had bought another Spider-man figure when the TV show had come out and I had seen the magnetic Batman and Robin at the toy store. I took strips of a self adhesive magnet tape and cut little squares and put them on the cuffs of his arm the bottoms of his feet and his knees and shins so I could pose him like he was climbing and stick him to the refrigerator. The funny thing was that he was a T1 so the elastic kept pulling him out of his pose, but if I had gotten a T2, it probably would have worked like a champ. It wasn't until this board that I found out that heroes could be T2, too. I only had Star Trek in T2, so I thought all of the heroes were only T1 because that was all I had. (of course I didn't know the term T1 or T2 until here, too).
                      It's all good!

I am in complete awe that you managed to keep your toys that minty for so long. Wonderful photo, thanks for sharing with us, it's what this site is about and we could use more of it.

Wow! I remember thinking about how much fun it would be to pose my Megos and create a "comic" but never did. That's a great shot and real testamemtn to a kid's imagination. Especially the Swiss Miss pudding container
