Hulk vs the Thing: A Mego WGSH question

Why is it that most WGSH Mego Hulk's fall apart at the joints all the time while the Mego Thing never seems to have this problem? Is Mego Thing stronger and more durable than the Mego Hulk??

I would hope so.. ol' Ben Grimm always seems to get the short end of the stick in the comics..

Interesting question, since I know a lot of Torch's seem to have the knee joint issue as well.

The green pigment used in the hulks locking pin rivet and bushing, is a very large molecule chain.
Pigments do not add any strength , they weaken the Plastic, and making it brittle .By sandwhiching between the plastics molecules, over time the pigment degrades , causing the plastic to break easier .

        Hulk vs Thing

Actually, I've had the opposite problem. I can find nice Hulks easily enough, but it took me four tries to get a Thing with unbroken knee pins. 2 of them were broken on the card , and 2 were loose but arrive broken.

            Hulk vs Thing

The Thing stays together better because he has his stocking which binds him compared to The Hulk, which has only shorts. If you remove The Thing's stocking and handle hem for a while, he will fall apart like The Hulk. Both of these megos are prone to falling apart at the knee joint. However, I like em both!

This is what I always thought. I knew the pajamas on the Thing was the reason he never broke as much. Glad to hear it dro.

As far-fetched as this sounds, it's actually true. All the vintage Black GI Joes have issues with crumbling plastic.

My Thing (which I removed from a card) has a broken arm but my Hulk (which I've had since I was a kid) is just fine.

Hulk was produced in large quantities in 1979 when the TV show was a hit.

As a result, there are many more Hulk specimens from the late '70s.

Actually I'm surprised that we never see any gray Hulks. I have seen
Torch and Thing discolored, but never a Hulk.

I always thought that the Thing just didn't stick around long enough to suffer from the late production problems facing later Hulk versions.

the more pigment in the plastic the weaker the plastic, and pigments used in the 50's to mid 70's were organic in nature
in the prosthetic business we learned about this, with brown pigment degrading weaking the Plastic resin.
I seen Hulks turn Blue, as the yellow pigment was destroyed ,by natural light, leaving blue
                        pigment intack.

I have had equal ammounts of broken Thing and Hulk
I think the Knee and elbow pins were just of poor design.
