Going back to 1979 today where Mego was hoping to have the Micronauts Rocket Tubes under every tree that Christmas. As this interview with former Mego VP Harvey Zelman points out, it didn't go exactly as planned for the Micronauts that year.

    ROCKET TUBES!!! WOOOOOO!!!!!

I've seen a lot of reprots that these didn't work; but when I was a kid mine worked fine. We'd use it like a mass driver; setting up a stretch of tube with an open end and launching figures like missiles.

I had this as a kid. Mine never worked right.

Mego had HUGE plans for this system - including cargo-pods, an "Ore Loader", complex stations with pressure-powered accessories, trusses that would support 6 parallel tubes... amazing stuff!

An associate of mine acquired a huge library of HMS company plans and whiteprints for Rocket Tubes. We'll be publishing coverage on it all at some point in the future. Still working and reviewing the materials...

If they really had invented the Transportation System of the Future they still would've been in business. But then they most likely wouldn't have continued making toys... Either way, we loose

I imagine there were some safety issues, too? What if a kid shoved a tube in his mouth?
                  It's all good!

You'd have to be Linda Lovelace to get one of those tubes in your mouth, I think...

Wow! I've never seen this one in real life. It would be great to see it in action.
