I'm in Japan and could use some price advice on Popy 8" figures

The family and I just arrived in Japan yesterday to visit the in-laws. Happily, the long flight was pretty uneventful, my 4 year old and one year old were far better behaved than I could have imagined. I was expecting the worst but was pleasantly surprised.

Anyway, I'll be hitting some old toy stores in Akihabara later this week and just in case I find some Popy 8" heroes, I'm out of touch on going prices for boxed ones. I think Battle Japan is the most common, are Battle Kenya and France the rarest? Oh, and how about the Bullmark POTA stuff? I really haven't checked prices on any of this stuff recently and would appreciate any help.

I'll try to get some nice toy store pics. Except for one of the biggest stores, Mandarake, that place has a really strict "no photos" policy. I don't wanna risk getting kicked out.

Oooh, get me an Ultraman Leo. I can send cash.

Feel free to PM for anything cool. I've followed prices on may of those for years.

I dare not even dream to see any of the Miura figures, but I guess stranger things have happened. I'll try to polish up my Japanese a bit, so that I can try asking some store employees about those figures, see if they ever turn up and for how much.

I'll keep you guys posted if I find anything cool. From past experience, at the places I go to it's really a crap shoot on stuff like this. Vintage wise, most places are full to the brim with old die cast robots and vinyl kaiju, but vintage action figures like the Popys are much sparser, maybe because they are not as widely collected in Japan compared to the other toys.

Which Mandaraka are you going to be hitting? The downstairs one in Shiboya, or the ones in the big mall filled with anime and toystores? (I want to say it was called the Sunshine Mall). The latter was more fruitful for me back in the day because of the sheer number of stores and vendors in addition to Mandaraka.

          Is there one in Akihabara?

I'll be hitting the one in Akihabara for sure. There used to just be a little one there, but they recently opened a big one, this will be my first visit to that one. I usually go to the one in Shibuya, but I'm not sure about this trip. Is the Sunshine malll the one in Nakano? I went to a Mandarake there once and it was in a mall full of toy stores, so maybe it's the same place you're talking about?

Can you keep an eye out for the Tsukuda Alien? The original style. He's 16" tall comes as a assembled pre painted "kit." Comes in regular color or silver. He's in a light blue box.
Prices here range from $75.00 and up.

              Thanks a million, Theressa

Oh and have a great time!

It's funny, I've been wanting one of those Tsukuda Aliens myself for quite some time. I'll let you know if any turn up. And thanks for the well wishes Theressa. My son woke up with a bad tummy ache today (jetlag? nerves?) so no big shopping plans today, that's for sure. The little guy is trying to sleep it off right now. Oh, and it's supposed to rain here for the next 3 or 4 days, including the days we're planning to go to Tokyo Disneyland. Yay!

The Popy Mego Superheroes aren't actually too pricey over there according to friends.

When it comes to the Popy Japanese characters, the two most common are Ultraman Jonias and Battle Fever Japan. Those are guys in the 100-150 range IMO.

Kenya and Cossack are the real tough guys.

Bullmark apes I have no real bearing on but I always get pantsed on them on Ebay, they always go above $250.

They've never been what I'd consider easy, Clem. They're also very neat figures.

Not in the easy but more in the middle somewhere, I saw V3 more than 1.
