Most you ever paid for a toy!!

Well what is it? Whether it be Mego or any toy (not grown up toys like cars and such) what is the most you've ever paid for it? Were you ashamed after and felt dirty all over, did you hide it from the wife or girlfriend? Did you break the bank? Or did you add it to the center of your collection and started a new quest? Let's hear it!!

    As for me:

Toy: Denys Fisher Stretch Hulk (1979)

    Place: EBay auction

Condition: C-10 mint box and mint figure inside

    Year: Summer of 2000

    Damage: 3,550.00

I remember going to sleep after the auction and the rush of winning and thinking, god, I can't believe it went for that much. I told the girl I was with that I'm going to calm down now that I won this.

Horrible lie, within a week I was back into the toy game and ready to smash all those who would oppose me!!

    Reign of the El Cheapos!

Holy cow...I could never ever do something like that. I have a wife and kids to think of!

The most I ever paid for a toy...wow...a single toy, was probably $109.00 for my DC Direct Robin. I got it, Classic Batman, Joker, and Classic Superman all for around $220.00 total plus about 20 bucks shipping, but Robin was the expensive one. I consider myself lucky on that exchange because I originally offered the guy 300 bucks for those four DC Direct Figures as soon as he put them up because I was tired of being beat out on auctions and he had all of the ones I wanted. He decided to hold out for the end of the auctions and I won all the ones I wanted and got about 80 dollars off what I originally offered to pay for them.

I felt guilty for even that amount.

I recently spent $140.00 on a lot of Mego goodness to get a good Batmobile and some stuff for trade, customs, sale, and whatnot on eVilBay...still feeling a bit guilty about that one.

I know it's really not that much in relation to many of the things you guys collect around here, but for me, that was almost sinful. I just DO NOT spend that much on myself. That's why I'll always be happy with my loose, presentable, some repro, some original, but still nifty looking collection I'm meagerly building to recapture the Mego-y goodness that was my childhood playtime.

Wow..somehow this post makes me feel like a little worm on a big freakin' hook.

I'm sure there's gotta' be other cheapos around here!

For a single toy, probably the $1200 I spent for a MOC Mego Andorian several years ago. Late last year, I needed to sell it, ultimately getting $400 for it. Ouch!

My second highest was $1000 for a set of all four mint in box Tex Willer figures.

I don't like to think of the most I paid for something because I always think about the old adage about certain types of people and their money... I would rather think about the high price items I found in a box of stuff that I paid $5 for at a garage sale. I've got dozens of those kinds of stories.

All of my toys are purchased with disposable income. No really! I dispose of my income in order to buy toys.

Actually I am not in the league of most folks here in the museum. My purchases are many, but normally less than $100. Although, there are exceptions when it comes to customs. Damn that Type3Toys, Blackknight, and now CMonster!! My wallet Rues the day it met you all, RUES is!!

The most I paid was nearly $1000.00 for a boxed Lili Ledy 12" Han Solo. Waiting for that package to arrive safely in the mail was a nerveracking experience (especially considering that the Ledy Star Wars boxes are notoriously fragile). It was fun telling my wife how much I paid for it too (explaining my logic that this was normally at least a $1500 toy didn't really convince her that I wasn't nuts either).

Mego Romulan MOC in 1993- $700, I know a steal but back then that was the going price.

I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that my answer might tend to incriminate me.

But I will say that the most I ever spent on a single item was for my solid boxed Aquaman and the most in one payment was for a set of CIPSA POTA figures, boxed and loose.

                              Yay! I'm not alone!

Really though, if I had the money I would probably spend more, but I don't, so I don't. It's pretty much that simple for me. I mean, I'm sure I couldn't bring myself to spend "X" amount on certain things because of the personal value over what some one else might charge for it or whatever, but if the price is right and I really want it, I'll try and make it mine within reason. There is a certain amount I won't go over though unless I can somehow rationalize the purchase.
