but then, Hasbro DID do GI Joe in 8" with Sigma Six, and people HATED it.
speak for yer self. i loved them i warm up to them when they first came out and there are still sigma6 fans out there.

I agree that the problem with Famous Covers and DC 9" was the boxes. They were aimed at collectors, not kids. The new, simpler cards appeal to both, and let you see the figure. ("It's the figure, stupid!") But most importantly, the packaging sends the message that these are "real" action figures, just like all the others on the rack. They're not special, boxed, limited edition, gold-foiled parent repellent. If enough 8" figures on cheap cards become available, and they get into enough of the right (little) hands, then there could be a tipping point, and we're off to the races. (Also, it would be really good if there were TV commercials. Nowadays, there might be a "doll" stigma, and if a little kid brings these to the playground and gets made fun of for playing with dolls... kiss that part of the revolution good-bye.)

But the thing that concerns me most is price. If you're the average parent, $20 is too much for a "tear-it-out-and-play-with-it-in-the-backyard" type of figure. Get the inflation-adjusted price nearer to what it was in the '70s, and the 8" cloth figure might have a fighting chance.

The thing that killed the DC9 line was the exclusiveness of Superman and Batman to Target. Mattel's rolling out the big two the right way in the Retro Action line, one per series and in equal numbers.

That was a massive fail and agree with you, I also think the boxes were a poor choice, they were clunky and they kept the line(s) below eye level. Despite what people think of the new Retro Action packaging, it's simple and effective.
