I always thought the whole thing had a Kirby vibe to it. The ape's body and posture looke like a Kirby figure. I know it's not Kirby, but it does have that squatty, kinetic Kirby feel.

Good observation. It kind of has a "I'm going to batter you by ramming you with this odd contraption" vibe to it, but it definitely looks like an Ape without a clue. I think CoCo the Ape would be able to figure this out before this nimrod.
