Will we see new knock-offs ?

With the popularity Mego has been getting lately with all the reissues and new issues, just wondering if it's possible drug store 8" knock offs might follow suit ?

Seems like sometimes (not all the time) knock offs have a better collectability than the real deals.

BTW, my idea of knock-off does not have to mean a ripoff of a character ....
It could be just a cheap license on a cheap 8" body sold at discount.

    What do you think ?

I kinda hope so. It would be neat to see some AHi or tomland like stuff hanging in a dollar store!!

I really, really hope so. It'd be great to see 8" soft head cloth outfit knockoffs with show up in drug and dollar stores. The longer the remego surgence lasts, the higher the odds are that some shady manufacturer will try to cash in.

Maybe the Tong body will reappear for this, or someone will make their own knockoff copy of a vintage mego, or one of the China factories that has the molds for Mego bodies will do a gray-market run with crappier materials for someone else. I don't know the legalities of that, and I wouldn't wish harm on Doc or Castaway's legitimate business either for it to happen - I just suspect that's how a lot of knockoff stuff happens.

I'd say the chances are pretty good. It sure didn't take long for 12" GI Joe knockoffs to show up after the Hall of Fame JOes came out. I still find 12" knockoffs at dollar stores. If they're up here, I'm sure there will be some 8" knockoffs in the US.

I'm thinking since most of the re-Mego stuff is pretty expensive a few fly-by-night companies may sneak in there and sell knock offs at a respectable price ... Maybe 3-5 bucks a pop to start .... God, we can only hope

The more 8" figures out there the better

I get what your saying T1K, your not just thinking about el cheapo, blow molded crap from China, but reputable companies making cheaper, quality stuff...like Chap Mei does with 3 3/4 action figures?
I could see Lanard Toys getting in on something like that. Maybe even Chap Mei themselves?
I tried to get M&C Toys to make 8" bodies back when I worked with them, but they hated the scale....wonder if they would change their minds now?

As fun as it would be, I still don't see that the 8" format has overwhelmed the toy market the way it did in the 70's. If anything, the 6" figure seems pretty popular right now.

If the 8 inch figures get popular outside the specialty shops and make into the general public I'd say odds are good.

Drug Store knock-offs are usually behind ... We might not see any until the reMego craze starts waning
