    "Safety net for Selling?"

I used to collect WWF stuff and we had a trade board going, where you earned "points" by completing transactions. It was just like feedback on ebay. you could look up a member in the thread, and see his deals plain and simple. For example If I sold someone a Batman, I put it in the trade thread. once the deal is done the recipient would confirm they got the figure, and I would get a "point". This way we can see if they have had dealings here in the past with people we know, and trust already, and get feedback on someone if need be... I am so ****ed this ****** tried to steal money from the folks here. I have been on here for the better part of the last 8 years, and people here are awesome all around. I need help, I get it here. I have only met a handful of you guys, but i pretty much hear about your lives on the daily. I just wish there was a way we could look out for one another without having mistrust for every new member that walks in the door. Because we Megoheads have the best community on the net!

Best advice I can give is don't buy from strangers ...

You might be losing a "good deal" but you will not be putting yourself in harm's way.

Even kids know not to talk to strangers, we should start doing the same thing we teach them

It's very easy to look at new sellers name, not recognize it and move along.

on just about every other sale related forum i frequent we used to have a reference sub forum running alongside the marketplace...

not one of these free for alls where everybody posts in the same thread i find these type of feedback free for alls a nightmare

we all had individual posts... then add the link into your signiture so even if your a few pages down its easy to find

easy peasy to set up a sub forum in the marketplace

        but...
folks who run run the MM want it there way and we have to respect that

but everyone from now on please use some common sence and if you are new and dont know or are in any doubt ask 1 of us regulars to see what we think

we are here to help you

if you are new to MM forums and are looking to get involved in selling off your toys and collectibles

          1. make an intro post in the mego buzz forum... tell us a little bit about yourself, how you came to find MM and if you know any of the members here, perhaps someone recommended you or you found MM on google tell us about that

          2. your new and you want to sell a moc iron man for $200... your happy with that, but to us it sounds too good to be true and you probably wont get any takers... why? you have not told us about any feedback, add a valid ebay id to your profile... one that we WILL contact you through to see if its infact your ebay id!!! tell us of any other forum toy related or other where we could go and ask after your reputation there as a member/seller. do you use facebook, myspace and other community chat... a potential buyer may want to see your profile in order to bridge some trust when handing over money.

          3. get involved with other topics and discussions... there are many other forums on board to go chit chat about toys and general discussions... surely you have a comment to make on the weather, sport, and other interesting topics that pop up here, dont be shy, say hello and make a comment... even if you dont get much reply or conversation from others for a while its far better to get involved and folks will WARM to you.

all these tips and advice is 100% unofficial of course but trust me you will get by alot better if you decide to follow some of these simple steps

That is great advice. It just seems that people(even 'veteran' members here, in this recent case) sometimes get caught up in the great prices that a scammer is offering on nice looking figures and forget to use their better judgement.
I just hope everyone got/gets their money back.

The only problem with any kind of safety net is that some previously good seller will crash and burn eventually. Nets do have holes.

They do, but they stop most of the scammers before they can even start.

BEWARE of this too, I once got a box of old catalouges instead of my Droid Factory, hence something shipped, and I lost my $$$

Also Doing a background info check may ease some people up. But I have never sold anything, but have been on the boards over 8 years (lost my old ID when we moved the boards) does that mean I am suspect for strange dealings? I hope not.

^^^ Dude ... you just gotta be smarter man .. , and Know the people you deal with. You can't Just Throw Cash out there , reguardless of amount, to any seller you do not know. I am not sure what else is to say... As far as a Safety Net ...., The Museum And Other's can only help out so Mjuch ..., and offer Advise...when it comes down to it, No one is sending Cash out with Delussions of getting something back , but the person who did it. There's scammer's in everyday Life. I view Joe Blow with little or No Posts that has MOC/MIB 70's and 80's stuff, the easy ones to spot...., if they are not , then good for them, but why chance it ... unless you know ?

True. ANY transaction is a risk, and even someone who's a good trader can have an off day, or a disaster, or have something happen behind the scenes that turns 'em into a jerk.

I luck out 'cos most of the stuff I get isn't valuable, and if I get took it 'aint for too much. But for big end deals your best bet is a bit of research: feedback is one way, so is testimonials from other people who've dealt with them. (Double-bank your info whenever possible.)
