You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...Comment

Meule,
I say it MUST have the black line because about 99% of every Batman pic I own has it. It's also the way I always draw it.When I envision Bats, the stripe is there. Just my experience and opinion is all.
Do you have pix without the stripe? Just curious. I figured it was always shown that way. Or most of the time at least.

Some quick comments.
Bruce's hair was parted back in the 70s and 80s, so really that's more authentic to the era.
I like the black on the cowl. I could go either way with it, but if it's a light blue (and it doesn't seem to be) I think it NEEDS the shadow. Just look at the 9" Dick Sprang Batman from Hasbro. That thing seriously needed that shadow. I added it to mine and it was perfect after that. Batman almost always had this shadow pattern on his cowl back in the day, so it fits.
The line down the nose helps, but not crucial.
As much as I love my Megos, the oven mitts are one thing I'd never ask to return (sorry Mitch!). They were a design flaw from the get-go that should have been phased out over time. They were the first piece of any Mego lost too.
I love the DCD 13" figures, but I'm not expecting that look here. This is supposed to evoke the Mego feel, and it does. It surprises me that so many long time members of this board seem to have a hard time with that retro-look. The softer chins and simplistic costumes are part of the Mego charm to me.

Hmm... To clarify my hating the cuffs, I don't care much for the oven mitts either but, the cuffs look just as goofy to me. They're poorly executed. I think going the magnetic Batman route for the gloves or even something similar to Castaway's wrist cuffs would work much better.Comment

Design flaw is blue hands with a removable cowl....So if you put BW in a suit he will have blue hands....what about customizers who may choose a black outfit.....Mego used a generic body to make simple modification without a huge effort....Obviously that is not the case here....seeing as Wave 1 will appear on shelves with useless legs.....Every collector/ fan is expected to drop at least 120-150 bucks on toys that have problems in order to support the line.....Comment

I have never been a fan of removable cowl Batmen of ANY era.
The costume needs to tighten up as well. It looks like he's in his jammies. The cape needs...something. Not sure what. Like the fact that it's longer, though.
Aquaman needs a separate belt. Kudos though for the printed top. Don't care much for the head, though.
Two-Face and Manta are cool. I really like the sculpt on Two-Face, but his tie needs to slim down.
Anyway, that's my list. In the pics it looks like wave one has been cleaned up quite a bit from what we initially saw. Hope the same happens for wave 2.Last edited by kept back; Feb 19, '10, 1:40 PM.Of all the souls I have encountered his was the most...human.Comment

Troy's Batman is cool but I personally dislike the nose. Too wide and defined for my tastes but it's all opinion. The removable mask was a must for me and voth my boys. My oldest said he didn't want it unless the mask came off. lolComment

I can only hope that the Batman is an EXTREMELY rough prototype. I would prefer a molded head, but if the cowl fits without looking enormous, so much the better. Its amusing to listen to the chorus of how charming they are and how we should just be happy they are being made. That's true to an extent, but I'm not paying $20 a pop for charm. I'm paying for quality. If I wanted vintage, I would buy vintage or get a custom repro. What is really sad is all of the other EMCE lines are so much better by comparison.Comment

Here's some before and after some quick tweaks I did in Photoshop. Remember, I said QUICK tweaks. I use Photoshop every day at work and am quite adept with it. I wasn't making the Mona Lisa here.
If Batman's nose is going to be blue, which by the way, is what I prefer, it MUST have a black line.
Bruce's hair, now parted on the side, looks a zillion times better IMO.
Here's a big difference, I tapered the jawline.
See if you can spot the other subtle tweaks.

I still like Troy Younger's headsculpt for a '70's style Batman better than any others I've seen.
This sculpt is bad ***!Firefighter/Mego CollectorComment
