    Gestern Wars Promotional Piece

Fantastic Update courtesy of Jens Knappman today who was kind enough to scan this rare German leaflet for theLion Rock Gestern Wars series but also translated the whole thing for us as well. It's a really neat look at foreign marketing many of us haven't seen before:

    1939 - 1945
    GESTERN WAR'S.

When the world was ablaze. The second World- War was at rage. Nearly all countries of the world were involved in this war.

Today no sensible statesman would chose the war as a means of politics. Too large were the suffers and casualties of the recent war, too powerful and deadly are modern destructive weapons. 55 million dead people and immense destruction remind us to not forget the past.

Everyone who wants to know how the world in which we are living now was created, how todays political systems and borders developed, will not get around learning about the most extensive military conflict in the history of the world.

The artwork on the reverse of these packages is phenomenal!!

They rival and might even surpass the Palitoy Apes artwork.

On a different note, I came so close to bidding on this:

World War II Woolworth Brave Soldier Military Figure - eBay (item 290389028725 end time Jan-12-10 08:54:24 PST)

It's a knockoff I didn't see in the knockoffs section. Knockoff may be a loose term, the figure looks almost like the real deal.

I've never seen that brand name for them before.

Those Lion Rocks are so cool. And the card art is just beautiful

                    Jens here...

Did you notice that the leaflet contains a funny error?

It shows the photo of a (prototype) box of the German Pilot and in front of it you can see a small catalogue.
On the catalogue are the pictures of two figures: US Paratrooper and Seabee.
Ironically those are two of the four figures they did NOT release in Germany!

As a kid I always wondered what strange figures those might be

cool. I never saw the Lion rock versions as a kid, at least not that I remember. I do remember the knockoff verions in Jamesway and I evern had a few. Still hav ethe Japense officer. they were well made and had a lot of cool weapons

That old leaflet is in really bad shape... But I am working on it!

Some time ago I already restored the first side (see this thread: GESTERN WAR'S Promotional Leaflet - RESTORED)

And recently, I started to retouch the second side.
Here is a small preview (before / after):

If someone has this thing in mint condition, please tell me.
Then I can stop this tedious work

I have a mint leaflet in French.
I have a couple of these figures in identical boxes of the French edition ("Il était une fois")...
