    Captain patch Returns (Sort of)

A neat new addition to the Mego Museum Super Pirates Gallery.

Captain Patch was recycled by an anonymous toy distributor in the mid seventies to get rid of excess Matchbox "Fighting Furies" outfits. The figure was often just shoved into an existing outfit (as seen above). The head is a reverse of the Mego head (Meaning his eye patch is on the other eye), his outfit consists of Jean LaFite's clothes and his body is the exact same as Captain Eagle, who was marketed with spare Action Jackson outfits. Photo courtesy of Bill Frost.

I've never noticed the heads were reversed before.

Wow, now that's cheap and lazy. Shoving a figure in a boxed outfit

You just don't see that type of stuff nowadays. You see some odd gift sets, but nothing "unofficial" shoved in real product.

I noticed one dressed like that in a Matchbox Fighting Ship auction the other day.

They aren't terribly hard to find, just hard to notice. I'm working on a fighting furies web page and didn't even see him in there until my third pass through.

The Fighting Furies one? Yeah, it was in most of the major catalogs in '74.

That one in the Mego picture? nah, that was just a sweet layout from TolToys Australia.

Those pics are great! I have started a mego-scale pirate ship for my kids. It is mostly wood.
