What collecting "rules " do you have?

Right now I have to stick with AUTHENTIC REPRODUCTION , but I love the Gorn BUT he's not a reproduction. I cant BUY it buy maybe a gift?

I get carried away !!!! I have to watch it ! Army building , collect them all. I need time for my own dolls and artwork.

    What rules do you have?

These days I'm trying to stick to Superheroes and Megos, but it's so hard given how many cool collectibles continue to be created each year.

Those 12" Ghostbusters over at Matty Collector, or bobbleheads of every movie character under the sun are hugely tempting.

            I don't buy carded figures.
            I don't spend money that I don't currently have on a toy (i.e. see Rob's rule)
99% of the time I only buy vintage toys, not new ones. But it's not 100%, so I guess that one isn't a hard fast rule.

The only rule I use to have was never try to horn in on an eBay auction that another member was bidding on. Of course since eBay changed everything, that rule has gone out the window.

I pretty much stick to the 8" mego line and that would include EMCE, Castaway, Commander X, Mattel. etc. I spend some on customs supplies, and parts. Otherwise mainly the only other toyline I collect is vintage Star Wars. I have a few Fighting Furies that I would expand on, as well as a couple Shoguns Warriors. Basically if I can't afford it, it has to wait.

No repro parts, EVER! Only repro paper emblems on a few things, even these bother me, but I'm realistic. Probably 90% of loose Batmans are missing the emblem.

Mego rules: only Batman related toys from WGSH (loose, boxed and carded), only loose 8" Star Trek and loose Mad Monsters.
Other rules: only vintage Batman toys, nothing new, unless it's free or a gift maybe

I don't buy much these days, I realised how full my place was getting. I guess my rule is appreciate what I already have.

My whole problem has always been there are no rules. I've spent $1500 on auctions and didn't have money to pay the bills. I've always figured out a way. This bad thinking can be very stressfull sometimes. It's a double edge sword really. I have things in my collection I never thought I'd get but no place to display all the treasures. I don't know if I'm starting to grow up a little now because I've been selling off alot of doubles, and triples and variations and stuff I never should have bought. It feels good. I want to keep the collection to mego's, gijoe 3 3/4, 1 set of ahi monsters (male creature, female creature, jointed mummy, wolfman, frankenstein, and dracula, and 1 mummy with the sling, shoes and blood) things I had as a kid and items releated to movies I had as a kid, and lots and lots of pez. I'm sure there are others, but this will be my main focus. Jason

                          WANTED - Solid-Boxed WGSH's, C.8 or better.

Being happy with what you already have. I think after 25 flipping years I finally found out what the OTHER half of the battle is !

GI Joe Public service announcements , as if I have to explain anything to you guys.

I did have more fun with a single figure and my imagination ( and some string, clay, aluminum foil) as a kid. Once I had my own money to make a Cobra army it was too much work.
