My Mego WGSH Collection circa 1976

    I'm on the left.

This picture was taken on vacation in the Wisconsin Dells Summer of 1976.

I vividly remember hearing "Afternoon Delight" non-stop on the radio, buying packs of Topps Marvel Super Heroes Stickers and AHI Monster jigglers, and my older brother and sister lighting sparklers and "Snakes", the little black fireworks that "grew" when you lit them.

My mom wanted to take a picture of me and this kid who I met on vacation. I immediatley grabbed all my Megos (which for some strange reason I hauled with me on vacation) for a pic. My mom then suggested that I let my friend hold one or two of them for the pic. I reluctantly handed over a couple to him. If you look carefully you can see him holding what may very well be one of the first customs ever, Johnny Storm which was created by me putting a Mr. Fantastic suit on an Aquaman body.

Very cool pic. I recently looked through my mom's photo collection and could only find one pic featuring any of my childhood Megos. It shows my cousin and I playing with some of them, but it's really hard to make them out in the pic. I was disappointed that was all there was, but I should still try to scan it. The Megos are much clearer in your pic, that's great.

I don't think it's strange that you brought your Megos on vacation with you. I took toys with me on trips all the time. Even when we went to Jamaica, I brought a couple KISS figures and a bunch of Star Wars stuff, including a couple large size figures. My parents thought I was nuts, and the customs officer in Jamaica got a laugh when he opened my suitcase.

Wow, what a great pic! You should put that in the Museum childhood photo album! I've been to the Dells before and it was fun. And it's not strange bringing toys on vacation. I've done that before, but I was only allowed to take one, but that was OK, b/c I usually got one on the trip anyway.

Awesome pic, Charlie, and quite a little collection there.

I love these type of pics. I only wish I had more (moving 13 times the first 15 years of my life led to tghe loss of a lot of our stuff over the years). The only pic I can find has me showing off my new Mego Dracula on Christmas morninig.

Great pic! Brings back memories of many vacations I went on. I don't think it was strange at all. I had a cookie tin filled with Star Wars figures that went on most of childhood vactions. Later G.I. Joe would be thrown into the mix.

                              What a great picture!

As for travelling with Mego, how else were you going to entertain yourself in the car? I used a backpack for mine, my son now uses a toolbox which gets filled with JLU figures.
