Star Trek TMP Gallery Updated and Revised

My first post on the forum and its a BUMP.

Well, I am new around here. Just thought I should get around to posting something. This thread intrigued me a bit. I am an 80' model myself so I was too young for most of the Mego days. My uncle had a Kirk and Spock in the original 8" line that I always loved to play with whenever he (a die hard collector at the time) would let me. I think thats where I fell in love with the Mego stuff.

My mom was a Trekkie back then too and had the foresight to buy the entire 3 3/4" line (except for the mail away alien 3 pack unfortunately). She bought the bridge crew for me to play with (I was maybe 3 or so at the time) and I still have most of them - very played with - to this day. She also bought the entire line that was available which I still have MOC. This includes the bridge as well. They are currently in storage so I have not seen them in a long time, but they should still be in great shape.

I am curious though about the Vulcan Shuttle and the whole "was it produced and sold?" "was it only a prototype?" debate. I find it strange that if it saw even limited production, that no known toys have been found. One member on here alluded to having one as a kid. If thats true they must have seen at least a limited run. Unless he somehow received a prototype model (maybe friend of the family knew somebody who knew somebody that had a friend that worked at Mego or something). I am just curious if there is any other info out there anywhere...

South Bend made the Electronic Enterprise and a electronic phasers (with really good looking replicas of the TMP Phaser that shoot infrared light to each other and have electronic noises when it gets hit)

Really cool stuff.

I think I saw that Enterprise on Ebay once years ago but nothing since then. Early electronic toys have certain charm to them.

I've always wanted the 12inch STMP Admiral Kirk, I love that grey and white Admiral's uniform. To be honest with you I wanted the entire line of 12inch and 3.75 inch figures plus the bridge. I think another company produced a electronic Enterprise and it's very rare these days.

I'm glad you never noticed it but I can't see how anyone could miss it. It left me wondering if a Captain's Log was in his pocket or was he just happy to see Ilia.

Yeah, sometimes you could really see it poking in the movie.

Mego could have teamed up with Hasbro and released a Decker Mr Potato Head.

I don't know if anyone here has both of these... but back in '79 a punch-out book of the Enterprise bridge was released. I'm wondering how the size of the punch-out bridge compares to the Mego bridge. Is the punch-out bridge scaled to the 3 3/4" figures?

Decker's outfit was the worst - especially the pants.

It's shocking they would actually use a uniform like that which clearly showed his "potato".

Everytime I watch TMP and see Decker I still think --- what were they thinking ?

Another line I dug as a kid, but haven't had much desire to collect as an adult. That being said, I do have a few loose figures and a Spock and Kirk MOC. I am far more into the 8" line.

The Buck Rogers and Black Hole figures totally blow the STTMP ones away. The STTMP figures still had great head sculpts but the bodies were slightly pudgy looking and poorly articulated.

Well...to be fair, most of the old cast was slightly pudgy and poorly articulated too

Almost any of the Mego 3" figures look amazing with a little detailing, it's hard to see here but the painted production pieces (probably done by Tory Mucaro) for Buck Rogers blow Star Wars figures away:

That used to bug me as a kid. the packaging and ads showed much more detailed paints on the Trek, Buck, and Black hole lines, yet the store bought figures always were lacking. I know it was a cost cutting feature, but the "no eyebrows or eyes" thing really made the figures look cheap at a glance.

You're right about the facial detailing.. TOTALLY blew away the Star Wars figures..

Just look at Doctor McCoy.. Excellent attention to detail..!

Palitoy.., you HAD to show the Buck Rogers items.. Jeez, I HAVE to have that Star Fighter..!
