    Magnetic Heroes Update

A fabulous update at the MegoMuseum Magna Heroes Gallery today, courtesy of Mark Huackabone we have shots of the proposed American series of cards for the four heroes.

Mego pitched the line using these very samples at Toy Fair 1980 and decided to abandon the line. These rare US cards were produced for display at Toy Fair and are the only known to exist.

Check Them out at the Mego Museum Magna Heroes Gallery.

I really love these ... from the first time I saw Magnetic heroes in Bonavita's book I wanted them, but they seem pretty rare.

Such a shame they were never released in the US. I would have been all over these.

As much as I like these carded, I'm more smitten with the boxes:

but they NEVER turn up save for the occasional Hulk, one of these days.

PS spoke to a Mego exec who once told me that GIG was doing a better job with the micronauts than Mego, stuff like this was doing very well in Italy.

I've got a couple, and they're great little toys - although my Batman and Superman both need a leg each. They're the same leg, just cast in different colors.

                  If anyone can help.....!

No surprise. I've been told by Italian collectors - most recently by Italian TRANSFORMERS artist & designer Guido Guidi, who did a substantial number of Magno-Micronauts original art pieces - that the magnos were wildly popular: hence all the non-Micronaut magnos by GiG. That probably set the stage for Howie Abrams shilling all those Nuovi-Micronauti (all Magnos!) to GiG from his Interchangeables production.

My interview with Guido is archived at Dave Waugh's website, where you can see some of his magno-related renditions, and read his comments.

Those cards are awesome. But as more of a boxed toy kind of guy, I prefer those Italian boxes too.

Between those, and the Micronauts and Black Hole magemo figures, you can sure tell that the Italians really liked the magnetic figures, just like they did in Japan. I really wish we had more of that kind of stuff over here, because I loved the few Micronauts magnemos that we did get over here (esp Baron Karza)

I admit that the box packaging is neat, but as a kid in 1980, if I saw those four bubbles on hooks in the store my first thought would be "how many can I buy?" THe proximity of the figure to the color background makes them scream take me home!
                        It's all good!
